Aerated Greens!

Just my 2 cents here. About reduced rates. It would seem to me that if they just said yes we have aerated our greens this month and we are offering a x amount discount because of it. The one time I made a tee time years ago and our foursome arrived to find that they had aerated the greens I was really pissed off. Not because they were aerated, but because when I made the tee time they did not mention it. I think most of us know that courses aerate in April and some do it as well in late September early October.

So let's expect this is true of the course you are going to play this year and aske the question if you are concerned about the greens. It is not all that hard to just ask the question. We always call early in those months if we plan to play at a different course and ask when they are going to aerate their greens.

One, and only one, of my local VA courses has an aeration discount. They give you 15% off and they tell you when you call for a tee time. You DON'T have to ask.

I don't think it unreasonable at all to expect to be at least told the greens are aerated, and not unreasonable to be granted a reduced rate. If one booked a vacation stay at a hotel or resort and was not told the pool or beach was closed for regular maintenance, would one be a little pissed off? Expect a reduced rate? I think the same could be said for any service that you pay for. Not rocket science.

Ack8236 agree....I went to play sentry world last year, late fall and the greens were aerated....upon calling to make the time, i was notified of the aeration and to me it is no big.deal in general to play on aeraed greens as long as I know. Then it becomes a cost analysis of worth of giving them my money. I hadn't played the course since the redesign and wanted to play, so I ponied up the cash. There was no discount for the aeration. Moving fwd, I would not play S. World right after aeration as it's a premium to play and now I've had the experience, but I certainly have no regrets, it was fun and the course is a great course. If I would have not been notified I would have been pissed, 1) given the price, but 2) the amount of travel it took to get there and to learn after a 2 hour drive that the greens were punched would be bad. Kudos to SW....and in pretty sure they had it on the website too!

Most folks putt so poorly that it doesn’t matter if the greens are aerated or not. Just sayin.......

Bad putters tend to putt well on aerated greens, and good putters tend to struggle on aerated greens. There's always the argument that good putters can make that adjustment, but I think that pertains more to the slowness of the greens versus the wobbly bounces that generally apply.
