In the old FGI days we had some Heat and Air experts. I have a question for those guys, or anyone else who might have knowledge.
Had a warm day today, and figured I'd turn on the AC to take the humidity out of the house and cool it down some.
Turned it on and was just getting air. Went outside and the outside unit was not going, no fan or anything. Check the breaker box and the breaker was tripped. Reset it, went back in turned it on and nothing. While the AC was turned to "Cool" I went out and looked into the outside unit below the fan and there is a box on the side of the compressor with 3 wires and there was a little tendril of white smoke coming out of the box. The breaker had tripped again, so this time I left it and turned the AC off.
My main question before I call and Tech tomorrow. Can the box be replaced? Is this a relay or something, or am I looking at a costly repair? Just trying to get a heads up on what I can look to pay for the fix.
Thanks!
