I've been playing the same driver for years, a 2009 Nike Str8-Fit Dymo2. Rounded, not the square one. I'm sure its COR is .830 in the center of the face, and I guess I believed that "drivers are maxed out" and all that. Even so, I've made half-baked tries to replace it, probably each year. I'd get a stock 45.5-46" year or two old something. I'd hit it terribly, then not want to start hacking it up to see if I could make it work, so back on ebay it would go. Last year I even tried a Wishon 919 brand new, but I didn't get enough loft I guess.
So always back to the Nike.
This year I decided, for sure, I can do better. I bought a Titleist 915D2 12º with a regular Red shaft, and a second regular Blue shaft, and also a Cobra F7 ladies head (12.5º native loft) with an adapter. I have not shafted up the F7 yet. I wasn't really expecting much out of the 915, but this afternoon we finally got a half decent day to play golf, so I went out to the course and played nine, hitting the Titleist 2 or 3 times at each tee box. With the stouter blue shaft. I had a reasonable swing after leaving AZ earlier this month.
Holy crap. Compared to the Nike, I just can't believe how forgiving it is. I was hitting it all over the face, much worse than I do with the Nike. Like real low, or an inch toward the toe. But almost everything was in play at a good distance, and most were in the fairway. If I hit 3 balls, they all went about the same distance no matter the strike. It was just silly. If I don't hit the Nike real close to center, forget it. I lose distance and direction too.
I need to do some more fitting with it. But it's a great start to replacing that old Nike. Then bring on the F7....
