professor All the other commentary is just food preferences, except for the asparagus/urine thing, which is assuredly genetic, and, in fact, there are two genetic components to it. It's kind of interesting.
First, some people are genetically predisposed to having asparagus make their urine take on a very pungent, very unpleasant odor. Eat just one spear of it and my pee stinks like hell for about two days. It stinks so badly that I don't eat it at all anymore, even though I enjoy the flavor.
Second, some people are genetically predisposed to not being able to smell the foul odor at all.
So, if you ask people if asparagus makes their pee smell, and they say no, there are two possibilities: 1) it really doesn't make their pee smell, and 2) it makes their pee smell, but they can't perceive it.
