From what I read the other deputies arrived after the shooting had stopped. What is then appropriate action considering that it is likely many students were hiding in closets, behind closed doors, etc. Do you go in with your guns blazing? I totally agree with Rick, allow time for the investigation to take place.
I know this is not generally a discussion, but why did the shooter actually warn one student to get out and then in another situation shoot one student nine times. It makes you wonder if the shooter came to actually target some of his former classmates? So much bullying, trash talk, putting others down, etc., is going on these days we have young people committing suicide. What if those same emotions of depression, anger, and a futile emptiness of life are not directed inwardly, but in a spirit of lashing out.
It is very clear his anger was directed at his school experience. He purchased the gun the day after he was expelled. However, he did not go to the administrative offices to take out his anger. I suspect we will never know, but if I had kids in school I would be concerned if they were trash talking and bullying other kids.
There is a lot of frustration in our nation about the lack of really dealing with crime. Our justice system is beginning to come apart. This past week in Orange County, FL a 17 year old was shot breaking into a home. What you probably won't read is this same young man had broken into many homes, knowing the people were home to terrorize them, some repeatedly, broken many windows throwing rocks through them with young children and toddlers clearly in site, trashed yards, keyed cars, etc., etc., and had been reported time after time to the authorities. In reality nothing was done to protect the families and children of his criminal activity. Well, yes he was previously arrested for battery, burglary, trespassing, and criminal mischief. Not a couple of times, but a history of time after time. Yes, he did get counseling, numerous evaluations, etc., etc. I have a relative that lives nearby and this is a situation that had gone on for several years.
In the case of the Parkland shooting the Sheriffs office did the only thing they could do, write reports and they did so 16 times.
