The illogical analogy would be something like this. At 18 you can legally buy 100% proof hard liquor, but you have to wait until you're 21 to have a beer.
The AR-15 is much more lethal than a lot of hand guns, but we'll allow an 18 year old to buy one, but have to wait until he's 21 to get a less lethal handgun. Makes zero sense to me.
BTW, I turned 18 in 1973 and the Massachusetts state legislature changed the drinking age from 21 to 18. The Vietnam War was winding down and they used the 'die for your country at 18, but not be able to buy a beer' reason for the change.
Perfect timing for me. They changed the law in March 1973 and I turned 18 in June..... .25 cent draft beer back then. 🙂
