Anyone doing anything special in the off season for their golf game?

I posted earlier in the year about experimenting with LH putting, so I've been taking my son to the local Golf Galaxy to practice "putt-putt game", as my he calls it. Getting pretty good at putting lefty...

Extended the shaft on my Scotty by 1 1/2". Cameron measures putter length different from Ping. My old Pings are 35" and the Scotty is 35". Yet, the Scotty was a half to three-quarters of an inch shorter. Now it's about 3/4" longer than the Pings. I can always choke down a bit, but it's tough to "choke up"! Sure feels better putting on the basement carpet. Plan on having it on the course for a few holes later this morning.

Also added sight line to the Scotty. It's an all-black GoLo. My old eyes had trouble picking up the groove sight line. Used an extra-fine paint pen and the black sight line is now white.

Still wanting to make some changes in wedges. Just can't figure out exactly what. Played 4 or 5 rounds in January and played pretty good considering the conditions. Short game has gone in the tank. Hard to judge just how much in the tank due to frozen fairways and greens, etc. Will leave the wedges alone until am back playing 4 to 7 rounds/week.

Weekly trip from the tundra north of Pittsburgh to the "Bubble" at Robert Morris University. Working on putting, sand shots and short game with Steve Almo's new offering, OMG Wedges. Really like the wedges and the wide sole helps my pathetic wedge game. Can't wait to actually get outside and try them out on a real golf course.

I'm going to shake the winter 'blahs' with a trip to Houston/Galveston this week. I just checked the weather and it is supposed to rain 2 out of the 3 days I could be playing and Thursday's high on Galveston Island (Moody Gardens) is only 58*. I have bad golf karma even in the off season πŸ™

In the middle of a home remodel. So I guess you could say that I'm doing something good for my game, as (hopefully) it will be completed within the next few weeks and something that I don't have to be concerned with this upcoming season. πŸ™‚

Last round I played was back in November.

My club has an indoor simulator free to use, of which I don't really care for... but hoping to get up there a couple of times before the season starts, just to hopefully remember what it felt like to swing a golf club before the season picks back up.

Been going to the range once or twice a week, weather and my back permitting. Just ordered a 60 degree EZPZ head from DTG, should be here next week. Figured I'd try the Matrix wedge shafts they have cheap. We have an all astroturf driving range nearby, with heated stalls, and they usually get the target "greens" cleared within a couple of days after snow. Even hit a few putts on the green they have last week. None of them dropped, so I'm already in mid-season form.

I used to go to the CustomClubShop (Former Home of Ashton golf) once or twice in the winter to hit balls and chat with Cliff for the social aspect and demo aspect as well as the hoing.
    I miss those days.

Went up there to the club to use the sim a few times last winter... we usually reserve the simulator for an hour. It's one of the older ones, not one of the newer ones with a launch monitor, etc. that detects every last spin of the golf ball, etc. It's pretty much a dinosaur as it relates to the newer stuff available today.

But... we make it a point to reserve our times when the bar is open in the member's lounge. We'll order a few drinks beforehand, and on occasion I'll even bring finger foods for us to enjoy while we're there (cheese, club crackers, sausages, etc..)

We're just there to enjoy each other's company and get in a few swings. We're definitely not trying to work on an aspect of our games, it's all about finding something to do on a cold winter day.

Wish I could get up there a little more often to be honest.

Back then, all Cliff had was a net and a swing speed unit, and lots of demos.
I was happy as it was no waiting and no reservations...

I have a fairly large, open basement that is fully carpeted with old berber. I can practice putts up to 30 feet or so and am lucky to have a wife that doesn't complain about the balls and practice cups sitting around.

I also chip foam balls just to maintain some feel for the chipping stroke. Lastly, I'm doing some hand and wrist exercises to help get rid of the tendonitis I developed at the end of last season.

sdandrea1 I like that here actually using the words "nice" and "delightful." I'm playing tomorrow in the Dallas area - 68* and "moderate" wind. I felt lucky until I saw that tropical week you have coming!

Recently bought a club I really wanted 10 years ago, an Odyssey White Hot XG 2-ball SRT. This one was from EBay at 34" with the original, well-worn grip. I extended it 1" and put on a new orange I-Line grip. Putts great in the basement. πŸ˜„

Planning on assembling a SL iron set with Matrix Kujoh 95 shafts, hoping to gain a little distance.

Also intend to roll the dice with Diamond Golf and order three Wishon 775HS hybrid heads.

This has been my gamer for years, probably since 2010 or so. I even have a backup. Is this why you wanted that XG grip? How cool!

It has been a great putter.

High of 34ΒΊ expected here today for SB Sunday. Rain changing over to a wintry mix this afternoon into late-evening as the cold front moves in, which will be nothing more than a nuisance event for most of us.

But... got a midweek moderate winter storm heading our way this upcoming week. Hoping it doesn't materialize, but then again it is Feb, which is generally our worst winter-weather month.

Good for the local ski resorts, but not good for the local golfers.

The rodent saw his shadow earlier this week, so according to legend - 6 more weeks of winter weather.

If I could make a deal with that groundhog - I'd take only 6 more weeks at this stage. I remember one year watching the Masters tournament and not being able to get out to play because there was several inches of snow on the ground because of a winter storm that came through just a few days prior.

Looking forward to the day (next 3-4 years) when the wife and I don't have to deal with this. We'll be packing up some things at the end of December and heading somewhere warmer for 3-4 months and escaping this winter misery.

Exactly. What's a golf season? It's year round golf here in Florida. Although my body could use some down time. Neck and elbows would love it.
