The problem is the (quality) lighter weight water-repellent fabrics cost an arm and an leg, and even then - it's still not really light-weight and ultimately not designed for hot/humid weather.
I bought a FJ water-repellant top three seasons ago, with zipless sleeves. Paid over a hundred bucks for it.. I carry it in my bag primarily for those occasional summer afternoon showers that pop up from out of nowhere. But even with the sleeves unattached - it's like walking into a sauna when you put it on.
Great for spring/fall, but not so great for summer weather imo.
Of course - if you're not like me and don't sweat in the cooler months of the winter - it does alright.
FJ makes a quality product. I bought a 3/4 sleeve rain jacket back in the early 2000's and it lasted me over a decade, after numerous wash cycles and usage. I'll pay more for quality, but given the choice - I'd rather not have to use it altogether and just save the money. The good quality stuff ain't cheap.
