I'm just as bad about the use of "golf" and "golfing". Golf is a noun... NOT a verb. Likewise, golfing is a verb and not a noun.
I'm going to go golf. NO!!!! You are going to play golf!
I'm going to hunt. I'm going to fish. I'm NOT going to golf!!! I'm going golfing. I'm going to play golf.
OTOH, if we can get more people to hit a hole-in-one or to go golf or to shoot par... how did it taste after you shot and cooked it... the more interest we can stimulate in this Great Game the better for us all regardless of what we view proper use of English.
