Very cool story. Sounds like you need to schedule another vacation for the Grand Canyon. 🙂
I can't describe just how little I felt, in the grand scheme of things, to see something of such magnificent wonder. We were on the southern rim... I could see the northern rim through binoculars, which was 10 miles across. Yet it would take a 5-hour car ride to get to the other side, from where I was looking.
It kinda puts things in a much more detailed perspective. At least for me.
As a family, we spent many wonderful vacations down in Myrtle Beach... never took the kids to Disney World in Orlando, because we didn't have the money to do it when they were young, and obviously as they got older - Disney wasn't a huge attraction for them in their teens.
They loved the beach nevertheless.
We spent most of our family vacations in Myrtle, because that's where our timeshare is. But that 9-day summer vacation to the Grand Canyon was undoubtedly the most memorable. It is indeed a special place.
