I think it'll be a good defensive battle. Or should be.
Philly will obviously enjoy the home field advantage, but other than that - I think there's a distinct QB advantage here for the Vikings. The Eagles have only managed TWO offensive touchdowns over the past three games. Part of that reason is because Wentz was able to read the defense and make the adjustments during the regular season. The longer Nick Foles stays in the pocket - the worse his stats become... no knock on Foles, but he's just simply not had enough reps this year to be consistently proficient, to that same level.
This still is a quarterback-driven league, despite all of the hoopla about how "defense wins championships." Had Aaron Rogers not gotten hurt - the Vikings aren't in the postseason. Had Wentz not gotten hurt - not sure there's a team in the league that could defend him. The Eagles, with Wentz, were the best offense during the regular season when he played. Then look at the performance stats when he went out... that league-leading 3rd-down conversion rate? It went to the cellar. The team scoring average? Went to the cellar. Wentz has the "it" factor and has been sorely missed. Otherwise they win-out and are by far the favorites to win the SB.
In other words - they're not "dogs" in the postseason.
So now the Eagles are relying on their defense, against a very similar strong defensive team, to win this battle in the trenches. Who are you putting your money on? Keenum or Foles?
Mind you - all of this stuff matters not in the postseason. It all comes down to coaching, and a couple of big plays in the latter stretches of the game. We saw that last week in Minnesota... a missed tackle led to a Vikings team moving on to the NFC Championship and only one game away from vying for a SB championship, when it looked certain that the Saints were moving on.
Not saying Philly is going to lose. Not arguing that Minnesota is going to win. Just saying that it should be a fairly evenly matched contest, two very good defenses, a QB riding a lot of good momentum vs one that still seems to be finding his footing in his offense because of the situation he was put in at that juncture of the season.
Throw in the home field advantage - this could go either way.
I expect a very good battle.
