May as well start a new discussion of this build.

Going to build a 6 - PW iron set of Maltby DBMs with the Matrix Studio 94 in firm.
This 7i is built and soft stepped once to a 1.5" tipping vs. 2.0"...only briefly hit it
but feels and plays very nice so far. Now, 2.4* temps have shut me down for a while.

Question: i have decided to remove the white sole number paint. I'm not sure how
to proceed - should I leave it for the clean look or use paint fill such as gloss black like
the cavity badge color ? or medium gray ? or....
Check the pic...

I would go with black. How do you think flat black would look rather than gloss? Grey might look good but I'm having trouble visualizing it in the pic.

Although I really like the clean look you've achieved, I vote for the black so that it matches the stampings
in the cavity. Really sharp looking irons.....I had a set of the original M-05's several years ago, and always
ask myself why I ever got rid of 'em! Which ever way you choose to go, I hope you'll post pix when you're
all done! BTW, I just posted a link to Maltby's latest iron for 2018 in the "Equipment" folder.....

JMHO, but I would match the black gloss with the original paint fill in the cavity.

Thanks guys. Yeah, I just thought that the white number fill was way too stark for me. I need
a cooler, stealth look. I tend to keep my irons very clean, so the gloss black like the cavity may
work best. I may try a med/dark gray to test as it it easy enough to remove. I will post pics to update.

By the way, that 7i head has been hit by about 50 balls - really holding up well !!

I concur with yuse guys, match the stampings in the cavity....grrrrr8 looking set....pics are a must after the build!

Never too late as I can always change back...but no. To me the white makes the iron head
with this dark finish look cheapish and with too much contrast. I'll post a few different colors
to test the waters soon. Bored, sick, Winter and need a golf fix - sooooo.

Nice thing about paintfill - you can do it and un-do it cheap and easy until you find what you like. Yellow? Gay-azz blue? πŸ˜‰

Do these have the mini-grooves? I tried them awhile back, and didn't like the results very much. Probably couldn't hit them hard enough or something.

Classic forged players cb configuration. I like the factory paint . Love absence of badges, but then I prefer vanilla ice cream.

Hoping and I'd bet that they'll play as good for you as they look. LB's Matrix iron build was Very nice looking too. Steve's been a little stingy with pictures of his Eye2s??? Unless I missed them.
I'm happy with my 84s too, for now.

        Provisional
This won't be my first rodeo....I've had at least 4 sets of different iterations of this iron design.
I just thought I'd try the MBD as I liked the durability and look. In fact, if anyone wants a set of
MO5 or TE's let me know - in the stash somewhere. I do like the easy, higher trajectory these offer
due to their low center of gravity. If you are a high ball hitter, you may want to look at the MMB.
        New colors soon....

Being sick almost always slows me down, but I finally did some of the paint fill to test out
the color match. The gray was too light and was abandoned early - a darker gray might have
been nice. I think the gloss black will win out. This will look good with a solid black ferrule.
          Stealth DBMs...

Black shafts and grips will finish the Darth Fader look!

I'll check my uummmm inventory after dinner and see what I have and get back to you.

As far as the shafts, well, they are the Matrix Studio 94s discussed earlier
for better or worse. They initially seem very good.

I put those 94s in my Eye 2 irons. Nice results, but a tad on the firm side for me. Let me know!
