My all time favorite was the Golfworks / M05 / TE / DBM. I still look at them every time I get to The Golfworks, but
$30 bucks per head seems a little steep. I'm playing the Acer XV High Trajectories right now, and like them pretty well, but reserving judgement until I get my hands on a set of Dynacraft Prophet cavity backs!

BTW, it's been great re-reading this thread on a cold day with nothing else to do in FLA. I'm glad 'toraider' went back and revived it!

I've never been disappointed with a Wishon head. Haven't seen every other option out there though.

I miss Golfsmith like it was in the early 2000's. The annual clubmakers catalog was like a Christmas gift and the fall Friends and Family fall sale was a club ho's dream.

I'd say the Wishon 560MC or Maltby TE for a forged iron with forgiveness.

Maltby MO5 in various iterations.

I just put together a Maltby DBM 7 iron with a Matrix Studio 94 iron shaft to.... immmmm.....test.
Love the looks, performance, feel of those Maltby heads. We'll see how this one pans out.

Eguller I had a set of M05's when they first came out.....don't know why I ever got rid of them (just what ho's do, I guess). I almost pulled the trigger on another set of them this fall, but decided on the KE4 Tour set instead b/c of their higher MPF rating. I like the look of the DBM's better, but the playability of the KE4's is excellent. Maybe I need a set of EACH!!! :o)

Wishon was early Golfsmith branded stuff, which was pretty good (irons)
Jeff Sheets did most, if not all, Snake Eyes (good) stuff. I believe.

I always had a thing for Snake Eyes, clean lines and good performance.

I had the Maltby MTF in the bag for so long, never liked them, just couldn’t beat them.

I think the best component out there is Wishon in terms of performance, quality and classic looks. I’d put the Hireko stuff in there as the best value.

Spuzz refresh my memory back in the late 90's or early 2000 Tom Wishon built two sets of irons for a PGA player that I am pretty sure were their top blades in that period. Do you remember who that player was. That is why I thought Tom designed that club and I guess it was not the Snake Eyes brand. Was it Scott Verplank?

This doesn't really answer the 3 part question, but my favorite 3 are/were:
Original Golfsmith Tour Cavity Forged - I had a set that I removed all of the paint fill and installed Rifle 6.0. They looked like jewels, and played beautifully as well.
Maltby M45 - My first Golfworks set and first use of FST shafts (ProWhite). Great combo that looked nice in the bag and felt soft to me.
Toski T55 - Played these with Rifle Lite 6.5 and prosoft inserts. A really cool CB (3-6) to MB (7-P) combo set that I shot my personal best scores with.

JoeHatesSnow Giving my M-45’s another try. Always liked the looks of them, but never felt that I’d installed the right steel shafts to fit my swing in previous 2 builds. Just finished building them again - this time with Xcaliber graphite shafts.

I miss Snake Eyes too. We still have Wishon out there, and Diamond Tour and Pro Series have clone iron heads. There's Hireko/Value Golf great quality and great value.

Alpha is still around and has some of the best component iron heads I've ever used.

I've talked to Derek at Geek about a Geek Iron head. It's something he wants to do, but the new driver heads for 18 are the top priority.
