Sterling Iron lofts no different than conventional irons?

Was looking at the lofts of Sterling single length irons and Maltby ST-i conventional length irons. The lofts are basically the same. That seems strange because I was under the impression that single length iron lofts are adjusted to make up for the shorter shafts in the long irons and longer shafts in the 9 and above irons.

Sterling lofts: 5-23degrees, 6-27d, 7-31d, 8-35d, 9-40d, P-45d, G-50d...Maltby lofts: 5-24d, 6-27d, 7-31d, 8-35d, 9-40d, P-45d, G-50d. Makes me think I'm going to lose significant distance with the sterling irons.

Do not worry. The faces on the low loft irons on the Sterlings are so hot, and nutting it a lot more often is likely to increase your average distance considerably.

Those Maltby lofts are STRONG for variable length irons, no? Maybe I'm used to Mizuno.

I actually picked up about 10 yards with my Sterlings. YMMV I think using three different materials in the short, mid and long irons make up for any yardage gaps.

Wishon did a lot of testing and adjusting to decide on those lofts - in order to get the gaps consistent under the SL design constraints.

Yeah, you can hear the difference on the Sterling long irons, almost sounds like a mini driver. And they have hot, high cor faces, so your gaps are great.

I also found them to be really hot faced.
My 7 and 5iron distances were maybe 15-20 yards longer than my Ping i20's . I even hit a few 5's in the 220 range when normal is 185-190.

Didnt use the short irons ( SW and 9i) much so cannot comment .

Distinct sounding.

Weirfan isn't it a weird, awesome sensation to hit a short club that far? No real issue with height for me either.

Only issue I’ve had with height is with the 4-iron, but it’s only 19*, and I’ve never been able to hit a one or two iron.

JeffTilley I definitely don't elevate that one too high, but it's not so low that I find it bothersome. If I'm that far out I'm not really expecting to hold the green - if I hit it at all I'm happy.

I mostly use the 4i as a tee shot on short 4s or for position. Or occasionally a par 5 approach if feeling frisky.

I borrowed the sterling in PW, 8, and 6-irons for a week and a half to try them out. On one hole I hit that 6-iron 180 yards! (My usual 6-iron hours about 150.) It's crazy hot.
