One of the guy I know took golf carts to jump all over he golf course playing whichever hole is open. Typically at the twilight rate, the all you can play deal. He'd be on #3 , then jump over to #11 then other holes which was open.
Sometimes he didn't even finish with the approach shots to the green, he'd teed off then pick up his tee ball and went straight to the next opening hole.

Typhoon The " blue boys" are what we call the knuckleheads that have never even sniffed at the 80's but have to play the blues because the white tees are not challenging enough for them.

I know a few of these "blue boys". And they took all the time on the putting green like they were putting on the 18th green of U.S. Open.

Typhoon I would not golf if I had to deal with a 3 hour 9 holes. I lose focus, start hitting bad shots, lose interest and would not enjoy it. The only way possible to do that is to walk, I'd be stir crazy waiting around in a cart.

Same here. I've learned that if it's backed up I just quit, or find a "hole in the zone" (using football vernacular). My time is more valuable then money too. A couple of weeks ago I paid for a round at a course about 90 minutes from home that I decided to play because I was in the area. But I ran into a huge backlog about 4 or 5 holes in. Was waved through by one group only to run into more golfers a hole later. What was interesting about this situation is that I was waved through on the first tee by a couple of locals who were walking (I was a single in a cart). When I was waved through by another group a few holes later I ended up on #5 only to find myself BEHIND the couple of locals who had waved me through on the first hole. It was at that point that I point the cart towards the clubhouse, and went in and asked for a refund. When I got the "we don't do refunds, but I can offer you a raincheck." I took the raincheck and took off. It was an exercise in futility because I could see the back nine was beyond packed with golfers. I just told the kid in the clubhouse, "I know you can't control the golfers, but when I paid you could have warned me it was going to be packed out there. I doubt I would have played."

I tend to survey the parking lot when I arrive at a course as a single. If it's full or close to it, chances are I'll turn around and head home without bothering, unless I know I am going to be paired up with a threesome or something like that.

Our course is like that because if u took an airiel shot of the course it looks like a scene from "The Walking Dead".... Single, single, 2some, single, 4some, 4some.... As soon as they come up, the pro doesn't ask people to wait around, just sends them out.

I'm used to it....DC, like I said, I expect it and pace myself so it doesn't affect my game.

It IS one of the reasons I won't play in scrambles though....6 hours plus and I'm in a cart. That's when I lose focus.

We play in a threesome and sometimes they put a single with us. We have played with some very nice people and seldom do we get a bad APPLE. Our course is usually pretty full so adding a fourth helps with the pace of play. I prefer to play with just the threesome because we know each others game and we get along with each other very well. The occasional misfit makes it harder to play our game but as I said it also keeps the pace of play good.

I play as a single most of the time. The biggest percentage of folk I've been paired with have been enjoyable. Of course there's always an exception.

This year I was paired with a 93 year old survivor of Pearl Harbor. EXTREMELY Nice guy that was with his 86 year old girl friend. We only played 9 holes together as he was getting tired.

I shook his hand and thanked him for his service, He in turn thanked me for being so nice and helpful (I retrieved his ball from the hole as he was having difficulty bending over)

His girlfriend gave me a hug for being a "gentleman" as she put it.

I left that day being honored to get the chance to meet and play with him.

In reality a 110 shooter will have a difficult time playing under 4 hours.

I prefer to play with an pre-organised group of friends or friends of friends. I don't have the confidence in my game to ask to join a group. Having said that I'll ask anyone to join us if there's space or join in as the single catches up. I don't get out a shape if they play for a hole and then go ahead either. Hell I have enough anguish with my own game to worry about.

I've had both positive and negative experiences. There have been more positives than negatives, but playing in a regular group of friends reduces the odds of a had experience to zero. I like that.
