I say if you are comfortable with hitting a 3 wood of the tee then keep it and forget about a mini thriver as the majority will have issues with hitting a mini off tight lies or rough.
Personally, I have canned a driver and use a Swing Science FC-One a fairway wood 43" off the tee (as long for me as a driver) and also hit it well off tight lies in fairway. Add to that I am straighter and as long as a driver. When, you drop down into the high 80's for your longest club head speed the amount of distance is negligible. Also most hot fairway woods even with a smaller head have that bulge/roll advantage that most drivers can't give you unless it's old persimmon.
