Dear God... can some of you heathens just put aside the personal nitpicking long enough to appreciate greatness? The final 5-hole conclusion of this 3rd major of the season deserves better discussion than petty "I told you so" bickering!
I feel incredibly bad for Matt Kuchar, who did just about everything he needed to do up until the very last hole to win his first major. I thought he played extremely well. Those who think differently obviously didn't notice the wind barometer in the lower right corner of the television screen. Matty acquitted himself quite well Sunday, came up with a very shitty lie in the bunker at the last that ultimately sealed his fate.
I go back to what I said in my prior post...
"That's one thing that separates the average from the best... the grinding, the not throwing in the towel mentally when they know they're not playing their best golf, that ability to elevate the focus and kick themselves in the ass when they need to get going and right the ship."
I think playing the last 5 holes at 5-under par, indeed, defines greatness.
Well played, Jordan. I was pulling for Kooch, but when the going got tough - you got going. That's the stuff that distinguishes the best from the rest.
Great Masters tournament... So-so US Open tournament. Fabulous Open Championship. We'll take 2 out of 3 and hope that the PGA @ Quail Hollow is remotely as entertaining!
PS - kudos to Rory. He actually seemed like he was interested/grinding today and managed a very respectable finish. Would love to see him rebound and play well in the PGA... just makes the entertainment factor all the more intriguing when the so-called "best" in the world are actually living up to the expectations.
