$30-$40 per round is unsustainable.
For perspective.
My club spends about $1.2 million annually on greens and grounds alone...basically, the turfcare department, all of its salaries and equipment and supply costs. It also does about 30,000 rounds each year, which is pretty damn busy.
So, for turfcare alone we're looking at spending in the neighborhood of $40 per round.
To be sure, the greens and grounds are in great shape. There's usually grass under a ball. It's very nice, but it is far from perfect.
Running a golf club in the US with decent turf is such a low margin proposition, it never fails to surprise me how many of them are still in business.
