State Park Golf Course fishing ?

So, we have a state park golf course here with a pond well off to the left of the only hole near it. Out of harms way, and no way to disturb golfers if you are quite. Does anyone have any knowledge as to if ponds on state park courses are legally fish able? I live in Oklahoma and can't find anything under the fishing regulations that addresses state owned golf course ponds. I've asked a maintenance worker there before and he said I wasn't allowed to fish there. I got the feeling he just didn't want people fishing it.

I'm going to continue to search for an answer, probably have to call a game warden or the park office to get the answer. I struggle to find public fishing ponds I can take my 6 yr old fishing at, and actually catch fish.

My thought is that since the course is owned by the state, and located inside of the state park, it should be legal with a fishing license to fish there. /Shrug

We do not have state owned golf courses. But, I have seen other government owned public lakes (muni or county) adjacent to courses that will post 'no fishing' signs if the golfers would pose a danger to those fishing or having to traverse the course to get to the shore to fish. Absent it being prohibited by signage, I'd think you are good to go.

I'm guessing that it's a liability issue. And if that's the case, it ultimately doesn't matter the designation of the property as it relates to what would otherwise be considered state-owned game land. If the state has designated this as golf course property, then they assume the liability if someone gets hits with a golf ball, drowns, etc. while fishing on the state-owned property.

If you were told by a course employee that fishing there is off-limits, then that's most likely their policy.

There are no signs posted at all near or at the pond. The pond is not a hazard for the course as it is very very far from the hole it is near, there aren't even red/white stakes marking it off as a hazard. I don't even have to walk across a single hole to get to it. I would have to walk near a tee box at first, but the hole goes one way and the pond is in the other direction.

I'm going to look up some phone #'s for park officials and local game wardens to get a definitive answer. Finding a decent place to put a line in the water is pretty hard around here, and this place looks like it would be worth the effort to find out.

I'd check with a park ranger to see if fishing is allowed. Maintenance guy may just be guessing or as you said annoyed.

Just because it's a 'pond' does not mean there are fish in it. It could be in use for course irrigation or such, but the maint. worker should have been able to tell you that, if informed.
If it's within the confines of the course itself, I'd say fishing would not be allowed by the public.

No idea, hopefully the dnr or law enforcement are at least reasonable about it if it is an issue....around these parts they do not hesitate to hand out citations for trivial matters.
