While I don't really agree with it, there is always he title comparison, even in team sports. Individual titles can only be argued in terms of competition, to me, much more meaningful. Jack = undisputed best ever, because major championships don't lie.
I have never and will likely never consider James as a Jordan comparison. The guy to compare him to is Magic, same style, same basic abilities and for what it's worth, I think both were/are over rated. Both can dominate and both can get you a long way, but neither can win without a damn good (read: other stars) team around them.
When people make the argument that Jordan had Pippen, yeah it's true, go look up Scotties Stats real quick and get back to me on how big of a deal he really was. I'll wait, find all the years the guy was even a 20pt a night guy.. go on, look that up. That's a guy that's equatable to a Dremond Green now. That's pretty damn good, but nobody is going to be looking back years from now and thinking, Dremond is a sure fire 1st ballot HOF player and didn't need the Warriors to look great. Look at Pippen when he left, 5 years of mediocre.
The Bulls had a supporting cast to Jordan and most of it was revolving. The Dream Lakers were nasty and yeah, they won. The Celtics had Bird and McChale, Ainge etc, all solid, one star. Pistons, arguably more talent and more wins around their stars. That's what set Jordan apart, he carried a lot of crap along to win, when he got support, they won 72 games.... I know, GS got 73.. amazing, but that is DOMINANT. He averaged 30, when that wasn't part of the game! Teams still played D, a 100 point game was rare, not the norm. The young generation has no idea. If there is a Jordan comparison, it's Kobe. Kobe is to Jordan what Tiger is to Jack (no not passed out next to a bottle of him), but good enough to draw reasonable comparison, just not quite there.
98% of this comparison bullshit is to get ratings on TV, hits on blogs etc. I could write the garbage they do, but can't figure out how to get paid enough to put my time to it. Truth is there was one Wilt, one Walt, one Larry, one Magic, one Karim, one Jordan, one Shaq, on Kobe, one Lebron, one freak called Durant and there is no way to compare those generations, but good luck convincing me that Anybody was a better baseball player than Babe Ruth, golfer than Jack, basketball player than Jordan, if you want that argument, bring a bottle of Bulliett to my house, I'll provide the glasses and the fire to sit by, you best have some hardcore facts ready to go!
