1978 HB Powerbilt Citation Irons

My buddy John from New Berlin, WI posted this today. I have worked on a few sets over the years though never played them, I have hit them really great "feel"! The 70's HB Powerbilt Citation Woods are also suburb! I believe @Rickochet has or had some Citation persimmon woods.

I grew up in Louisville. H&B made a few baseball bats there. I started playing golf in about 1962. I started playing on my High School team in 1964. Back then the Power Bilt Citation clubs were very popular in the area although a bit expensive and available through a pro shop only. What ever junk clubs I had at the time got stolen. My mother knew a salesman from H&B and he couldn't get her some Citations but she could get a set of Louisville Slugger Irons and woods. A bud on the team had some Citation woods and irons and I hit them some. The woods with the brass weights on the heel were just incredible.

Made a set of these a few years ago......I guess Powerbilt couldn't ever think of some new names!

darpar Do they look as pretty in person as they do in photos? The smooth lines and artwork look so attractive to me in the presentation photos.

A nice looking head,pretty small compared to my Cobra CB's,and the medallion on the back looks a little on the cheap side.

Funny Story….

I caddied for this guy Paul Murphy back in the State Amateur back in the 1970’s at Winchester CC. 30 years ago ( seems like yesterday ) I get a tee time at the TPC Scottsdale while on vacation. I’m by myself but they team me up with one other single. So I’m on the first tee waiting and who drives up but Paul Murphy! And he still was playing the Powerbilt Citation irons and still had the orange staff bag I carried !!!

Blew my mind and his as well. Weird how the universe works.
