TheBlade Do you have a recommended compound to use for buffing light scratches out of drivers or fairway woods? Using a motor and a soft buffing wheel... would take any other recommended methods as well. Thanks!
jsippy73 Just bought some yesterday: https://www.harborfreight.com/152-oz-ultimate-compound-59322.html Maguires Ultimate Compound Walmart has it too I think.
mulegolf I'm not sure if you can find it anymore but Glanz Wachs is teriffic. I originally bought it from Golfsmith and it was supposed to do just what you're wanting. It works great. It comes as a bar and you just rub it onto either a buffing wheel or onto an old soft cotton sock and you're in business. I've still got part of a bar left after 30+ years.
jsippy73 LBlack14 Have had some just like it. Don't beat my clubs up so don't use it much on them. Can polish most anything with it. Not for deep scratches.
Mattyv I just got done painting my truck and doing all the prep work. I am wondering if some wet sanding with 1200+ grit paper plus a good polish might work.
CallMeAl Mattyv 3000 grit wet sanding would be better before polishing. Much less swirls to deal with.
jsippy73 Mattyv 1200 is a little course for finish sanding before buffing. Do you do your own painting?
Mattyv jsippy73 Not by trade, but on a 15 year old truck that wasn't worth having it done at a shop. It looks a lot better than it did and decent from 10 feet and that was all I was hoping for.
Mattyv I did put a plus sign behind the 1200 number. That would be the start of the process to address any deeper scratches. Then finer grit(s) before polishing depending on how it looks. On my truck project I used 2000 grit before I polished.
sdandrea1 Mattyv . It looks a lot better than it did and decent from 10 feet It's a "10 footer". My FIL used to collect and restore old cars (1920s, 30s etc). He called them 20 footers, 10 footers and pristene.
Mattyv jsippy73 I didn't take any before pics. I will take some after pics soon. I used spray paint cans from a company called Automotive Touchup for everything but the hood. For the hood I had to get more paint and that came from my local automotive paint shop. They make up rattle cans with regular auto paint. I just used Rustoleum Automotive Clear coat to clear everything. Maquires 100 and 105 compound for the initial buff and polish. I might polish it out more in the fall if I feel like it. I need a break from that project for now.
