Par4QC True, but I'd look at it as more of a quitting % being very high! Not really 'losing' though.
Again, going back to Vietnam we didn’t understand our enemy. Heard a story recently where after the war an American Colonel said to a Vietnamese Colonel that they didn’t win many battles. The Vietnam Colonel said yeah, but we won the war.
We were never going to win the war because we were eventually coming home and the civil war would continue without us.
What Trump should’ve learned is you can’t win with just tactics. You need a strategy. We made that mistake in Iraq. Won the initial war easily and toppled the government. Now what?
We got rid of all the Baathists who ran the government. Then we didn’t understand the tribal like issues between the Sunni and Shia. Similar story in Afghanistan. 20 year war and we’d still be there.
Trump should’ve known the Iranian people who want change couldn’t just rise up and take back their country. With what? They have no leader. They have no internet to communicate with each other.
Plus they were getting killed by protesting.
Iran is a huge country with over 90 million people. There’s a history going back to the British who helped install the Shah (actually the original Shah’s son) when the British and Russia invaded Iran in 1941.
Then there was the coup in 1953 and the British got rid of Iran’s prime minister which strengthened the Kings power. Then they had the coup in 1979 with religious nutjobs taking over getting rid of the Monarchy. And here we are.
We can’t win a war with Iran. Trump just may have opened up a hornet’s next that will affect Iran’s neighbors for years to come.
The country will never tolerate another forever war in the Middle East. And just like the other wars there is no strategy. The enemy always has a say.
And even if we send troops in they’ll always be a counter insurgency that will go on indefinitely. We can’t keep shooting down drones that cost a few thousand dollars with million dollar bombs.
Bottom line is we can’t keep fighting the last war.
