My brother has a Summer home up the mountain above Cashiers. Sent this to him...Might get to try it out in June when we are there if we have time - going near there for a wedding...If not then, it will be in August when we are back there just us...

SMT Over complicated. Same as the "grow the game theme" it did more harm to the game than growing it. Same as the media's sensationalism, it clouds reporting the fact and fact only as News reports should be.

Interesting. I guess they cut down on maintenance this way. The upscale par 3s that I have played/seen are pretty cool. The Sandbox at Sand Valley I have played and enjoyed. This in conjunction with playing Sand Valley and Mammoth Dunes. Fun to relax after grinding it out on the big course and coming back, grabbing a few clubs, beers and going to play the short par 3 course. There are regulation length holes but nothing long, short irons and wedges are all that was needed, with a bunch of partial shot/chip/pitch type holes too!

12 North is part of Trappers Turn in the Dells and I have road thru in a cart several times on the way to the 2nd tee on the Lake 9 and then coming down off the down hill #4 tee box. It looks great and is nestled into the wooded area in between 1 - 2 - 3 - 4 and although I don't know if elevation change plays a role it's definitely cut into the hillside. I definitely want to try it out next year after a round on the big course. The only downside is that I believe a cart is required as it's a bit of a hall to get to the first tee and the terrain may be too extreme for some to navigate by foot.

There are other examples of short courses that I'd like to get to.....I guess there is one in Sheboygan Falls and I saw one while looking at the web by chance in Verona, WI as well. Although not the same concept as OP, I suspect the concept is born out of the popularity of it!

That course in Sheboygan Falls would be Sunset Hills. $14.00 for nine walking with a 10.00 replay rate. I have played it many times.

"Sunset Hills Golf Course & Driving Range is a fully irrigated, scenic par 3 course built by Ed Kirchenwitz, of Sheboygan, and Ron Krueger, of Sheboygan Falls. The course is located on the beautiful Sheboygan River which is visible from 8 of the 9 holes.

Designed to create a challenge for all ages and skill levels, the holes are all designed with three tee selections: RED tees range from 100-125 yards, WHITE from 125-150 yards, and BLUE from 135-200 yards.

The course was designed by Ed Kirchenwitz, a member of the GCSSA and the superintendent at Blackwolf Run and Whistling Straits Golf Courses prior to the building of Sunset Hills. With this experience, Ed has designed some of the most highly regarded holes in the area. Holes 3 and 6 were selected by readers of the Sheboygan Press to the 'Perfect 18 of Sheboygan County' of 2003."

I'm at that point in life where I've started thinking about if I should start leaving my golf bag upstairs, instead of taking to basement after coming home. Can't really afford a 'service' where they send out someone to load the car....and help you in, to go play golf. Then meet you back after the round.

This forum may be populated with others of the same type of thoughts. Just being able to play at a normal course is something for the diary.

I'm guessing with the very low allowable customer volume, the price is probably a bit higher than I'd want to pay to see the same green over and over again. On the other hand, if the price reflected the significantly lower cost of overhead and didn't take volume into account I think I could play there fairly often and be happy.

Looks like a fun place for a family golf outing. Way better than TopGolf. I'd take my kids and grands if we had one nearby.

Sparkey good info.....thank you Sparkey. I will definitely get there this season...as well as to 12 North. Always nice to have a new golf experience. Have you ever played Riverdale CC on the south side of Sheboygan? If in the area and not wanting to pay the fees at the other big name courses , I recommend this one. The green complexes are superb....and that back 9 is a really good layout.

Sparkey I'd bet there be some lots around here can duplicate this 9 holes course. Don't need perfect acreage to crate this short interesting 9 holes instead of the regulation 18. There be many who would play it for fun. Kind of like a hybrid of regulation 18, better than the regular par 3s and definitely superior than the putt putt. interesting is how to maintain the putting area since we have fungus and moss growing everywhere, a headache for the greens keepers. Oh yeah, they'll grow on the artificial turf also.

I play Riverdale on Thursday night 2 man league.

Dewsweeper historically when taking a day off or vacation for golf I'd loop twice a day/36......one walk (if courses allow)and one ride. Not quite as rambunctious as I used to be and a 9 hole shorter course or a par 3 on top of a 18 hole round would work great and will be something I try a few times this year.
