I used to use thin PVC pipe with duct tape on the ends - and just stick a USPS label on it, but that was back before USPS golf surcharge days. I've not shipped a single shaft in several years, so not sure if UPS or FEDEX allows PVC. But as ptjn1201 suggested, sticking that inside a box is good.
