Making adjustments to courses has it's limits and costs not to mention that it changes those courses from the way they were originally designed to play. It's not as simple as , well grow the rough and narrow the fairway.
There is a heck of a lot more that goes into the design of the hole. Green complexes are sized, angled, sloped, protected to receive a certain shot from a certain area. Bunkers and water hazards to direct shots etc. making changes to one aspect invariably impacts other aspects.
When ANGC lengthens holes they also need to reshape fairways, landing areas, remove or add trees, etc. ANGC has been lengthened about 900 yards over the years to it's current 7555 yards and that still might not be enough. Now ANGC is one where they "could" let the primary and 2ndary rough grow a bit as it's pretty much non existent. However, they would then have to slow and soften the green complexes and IMO, there is no way in HELL they will do that as fast, form greens are a Primary trademark of the event
Many top Courses used in major events have had to undergo timely and expensive alterations to remain relevant but i think that we are at the limit for that. The only thing left is to either build courses that are 8000 yards long or dial back distances
