Zero Torque Putters

Thinking about shopping for a new putter, and leaning towards a zero torque. What do you guys thinking about when looking at putters. What all do they do in a fitting for a putter. Is that worth doing? Let me know what I should be doing?

Zero torque is great for those who need such things. imo, even a shaky ol' drunk could swing one straight.

I mess around with putters every time I go in to DSG or GG. IF I were to buy another putter today, I'd go for the PING
Tyne H(not a zero torque). Smallish head, and just wants to swing straight back-forth, for me anyway. Dirt cheap, as putter prices go.

I always (preach) say....it is not the putter that makes the putts. 😉But we always need new toys.

I'd strongly recommend a basic putter fitting. The fitting will determine stroke, length, toe hang, etc.
But mostly, it will save loads of experimenting with putters ($$$) when you have no idea of what 'type' to
focus on in your search. I did it years ago and it paid off.

Of course, then you'll have NO excuse for putting poorly. 🤔😉

I am using a mallet with a LH hosel, the same as what evenroll is doing. It is a cheap way to see if you like the look and feel. I have LOVED! my set up. It is simple to do - golfworks has LH hosels.
To me it sets up so square behind ball and putts on a nice push stroke

I had the grandsons in DSG last night and the three of us had a putting contest. I won using the cheapest house brand Top Flite putter. I'm not getting one, but ........

Just buy what looks and FEELS good in your hands. It's all about confidence.

I had a fitting at Club Champion, and I am not sure there isn't something to buzz words. I have a center shafted spider that is face balanced, which is the same term as zero torque. Only real difference from the new ones to what I have is that there is no offset on the face/shaft insertion point. The fitter did give me a bit of a diatribe about the shaft being a big part of the anti-twist, so a putter shaft upgrade is $300. I tested 6-8 different putters, (LAB, Odessey, Cobra, TaylorMade, and few others) and I got some tips to improve my stroke. I paid more for a fitting than I thought I was going to, but I think the information/tips were helpful. So I chalk it up to information and a "lesson." Just sticking with the existing putter for now.

Then again, Lowe's and Menards both sell 3/8" steel rods fairly cheap.................. easy to test & compare to your soft, high torque shaft you now use.🤣

Well, on my early post, I did say ‘basic’ fitting.
I meant a club pro with a PING app any just maybe a bit more extensive. As Rex said, you did learn some things.

Yeah, I dunno…. I’ve tried some in stores or at my indoor place. Granted they are not fitted to me and I putted fine with them but then I grabbed a Spider off the rack and putted the same.

The SCIENCE BEHIND the putter is great.
The PERSON BEHIND the putter isn’t great.

Funny you mentioned that. I picked up an Odyssey S2S Zero torque and it felt nice, so I tested it by
holding it with my thumb and index finger to let it swing on its own. It did. Ball after
ball rolled very straight (if I didn't interfere with its motion 🙄). There is a lesson there I think.

In your opinion, was that due to 'zero torque' or the fact it is center shafted.....with equal weight distribution from shaft placement? Not fancy wording that really just means the same.😉

jmo, but there should be no 'torque' when stroking a ball with a putter.......shaft is very stiff.......putting stroke is very slow......ball is not a heavy object.
OTOH, with a heel shafted putter the person holding the club can create (assumed) torque. Esp. if the putter has a huge OS, soft grip.

I think the term 'zero torque' is really a misnomer. The ZTs want to stay in the 'swing plane'.

Maybe it should be labeled 'zero lateral inertia' or some such. The shaft torque must be miniscule
(even swung at some speed). It is different, for me, than a center shafted putter. I know because my
wife has a Seemore SilverBack SB1 center shafted one that feels/swings different than any of the ZT's.

I am in the market for a new putter since my putting has been so bad at times, but I'm not sure about the ZT stuff. Only a few look decent at address to me. I like how they seem to swing easier, but except for one time I don't even putt well in the store with them. I have a strong arc stroke and they may just not suit me.

Recently I did some experimenting and found I putt better from short range inside 4-5 ft with a blade, but better from long range with a mallet. All blades and mallets were toe hang, but the blades toe hang more and maybe that helps with my strong arc stroke? I tend to pull short putts with the mallet until I compensate and push them lol. I did carry 2 putters for a brief time years ago (belly and std mallet), but I don't plan on doing that again. Maybe need to try the claw or pencil grip or just close my eyes 😞

KCee Heel Shafted like the Wilson 8802 are supposed to be for strong arc. What gets me is my Ping Tyne Sigma 2 with the short slant hosel says ' Strong Arc" on the shaft band but has the same Toe hang as my Scotty Newport. So..... who the fuck knows. The regualr Spider with the shrot slant neck hosel is money though.

You sound like a candidate for one of the
‘wide blades’ like the Odyssey Double wide or an EvnRoll. Lots of toe hang, look of a mallet. 🤔
