garyt1957 So I'm building some hybrids for a friend (thanks to Steve for the heads) and am wondering about tip trimming. Using shafts from DTG and their tip trimming chart. The 8H weighs between the average 6-7 iron. So I was planning on tipping between those two for the 8H but will the fact the 8 will play an inch shorter than a 6 iron make much difference? I'm thinking not but thought I'd ask. I know when I built my all hybrid set I just tip trimmed to the corresponding iron weight regardless of shaft length and it worked well for me.
[deleted] garyt1957 I've always gone by head weight for the most part, although I don't mind if hybrids are a touch head heavy. I also keep a swing weight scale handy as I don't want them to be too far away from other clubs.
sdandrea1 Just because it says 8h doesn't mean it needs to be 8 iron length. If you're using the 6 iron weight of the clubhead to determine tip trim, then I'd think you'd want the final length close to the length of a 6 iron.....for both swingweight and shaft flex purposes. One of the reasons I have a swingweight scale.
Luc_Van_Daele Put a piece of masking tape on the '8' write '7' on it, and proceed as normal adding lead tip, tip trim and cut to lenght to make a 7 iron. After assembling you may remove the masking tape or leave it on as you wish.
