iirc, this was hit on a bit in another post, but thought maybe it needs it's own thread.
We can only trust that the makers of the toys we buy/play have good QC depts.. But, when it comes right down to it, THEY have to put their trust in the foreign suppliers. Not so sure the OEMs actually have their own 'man on the street' at those facilities, and if so, not sure those people can be trusted either.
I've had a set of Wishon forged iron heads, 550C, for a few years. Was always going to send them out for professional refinish or black oxide, because they appeared to be in nice condition.
Just recently I decided I would try something with bluing, torching, etc.. I go through a process of acid removing chrome(if possible) then sandblasting as prep. I was surprised actually shocked, with what I found.
I've been trying to find an answer for it, with the heads being 'forged'. This is something like from being cast.
Not sure if ol' Tom knew about things like this, or he did find out and 1 of the reasons he sold out.
Going to box them back up, set aside, give it more thought, but right now I don't see myself wanting to use them and cause damage to balls every shot.
I guess it's not a big deal if we don't know, and we will never know as long as the chrome is intact. But still....it's damn poor QC at any rate. And if it was a known thing by sellers........???
