Opponent Score Enforcement

I'm playing in a MGA event this weekend. It's the FU Open (Freedom and Unity) at Las Vegas National Golf Club. LAst night my chapter leader sent me the following text:

Hey, I put you in the final group with two of our notorious cheaters. The two guys cannot learn how to count to 100 cause they always turn in scorecards in the 80's. So I'm asking a favor. I put them with you so you could ride them and teach them how to count up to 8 when they hit them in the hole. Please straighten these two boys up. I think I picked the right guy to give them a hard time.

One of the guys was our chapter leader last year.

azgreg In my early days of golf, we always used the phrase...."count 'em", when questionable! Didn't matter who it was.

azgreg I got stuck with one at our last tournament. I'm somehow on our handicap committee now. He's a reverse sandbagger sporting an 18 index when he should be ~ 24 so he never wins anything. In this tournament you had to hole everything and couldn't pick up at your max. Committee was worried he might get a net skin, but not actually finish some holes. He definitely didn't finish a few holes, but no way he was winning anything so I let it slide.

I was asked to do the same thing while at my last chapter in Phoenix a few years ago. Interesting enough it was for teh ex chapter leader than as well.

Typhoon I’m with you, I don’t think it’s fair that he has to be the Appointed Score Counter. It can only take away from his enjoyment of the outing.

I’ve thought this as well. I understand they don’t want people playing out of peoples yards or for safety reasons near roads etc.. Just take a drop inside the OB marker just like a red stake hazard.

Me too. Our course "makes up" OB just so we have some.

Ours too. I think at least 12 holes have OB, but it's maybe valid on 3 IMO. It would certainly speed up tournament play.

The MGA rule is locate where the ball went OB then go straight to the fairway and drop with a 2 stroke penalty. So if your drive goes OB drop in the fairway straight across where it went out and you're hitting 4. You still have the option of hitting from your last spot with a 1 stroke penalty.

azgreg We allow that drop in regular play, but not in tournaments.

We have a few tournaments where you must hole out and you will see players making 10-14 on certain holes with OB. I made an 11 on our 14th hole in one tournament with 3 balls OB. I had to finish because I knew I had a good shot at a skin on a previous hole lol.
