Do many of you pick an intermediate target as part of your pre shot routine?

I align with a spot just a few feet in front of me after looking down the target line from behind the ball.

Yes, always and my routine is used for every club and every club from driver to putter. As well, if I take a practice swing, it’s the Harvey Penick method, looking at a blade of grass.
I see so many golfers take the most disgusting half-assed practice swings! Living close to a green I literally watch folks practice decelerating on partial shots. Nothing better guarantees a flubbed shot. You could bet money on it.

No…. And I don’t take a practice swing. Normally my routine is to get in there and hit it. My targets aren’t precise. General area is my focus.

Only exception is if I have a tree in my line I try to hit it. lol My aim isn’t that good to hit it. So I figure if I aim for it I’ll miss it. 😎

As for putting. I subscribe to the philosophy of Moe Norman. Every putt is a 3 foot putt.

I prefer to pick a line I want the ball to start - some call it a window. High, low or mid trajectory and picture the shot to get a good visual of the ball flight I want. More external focus versus internal.

Eguller Similar here. Seldom do I stand behind the ball on any shot. I take my stance, then look down my left shoulder, which I will align with the flag or middle of FW if flag cannot be seen. Never pick out any tree, bush or blade of grass. 'See the field'.
Then hope I swing along the line of my shoulder. 😉

Yes. Mostly, looking a spot where I imagine a pitcher on a mound.

Not usually. But I do get alignment issues once in a while, and to fix that I do use an the intermediate target.

Without going into an hour of typing, I meant focusing on external elements versus concentrating on
internalization of swing thoughts such as hand position at the top, when the hips open, staying on plane... etc.

See target, see ball, hit balls to the target. 🏌

Intermediate not so much but I am targeting more than any of the seniors that I play with. In general golfers that I play with do not follow thru to the target with body or club. Most can't concentrate that much.

This is my basic set up and targeting method.

Only in putting......try to find the apex point and a definitive mark on the way to that point. On full shots I'll find something off in the distance and aim at that. Intermediate target on full shots is not something I think about or feel necessary for my game.
