A New Pace of Play Low

Talked to one of my friends today and asked him how his Monday round at Trull Brook in Tewksbury, MA was. He told me it took 6:45 !!!! It was a Monday afternoon…. Weather on the cool side too. 6 hours and 45 minutes. One of the guys went in to complain and they didn’t care… they said, “it’s busy out there, nothing we can do about it”.

I won’t play there anymore anyway. Used to be a great place to play. Nice conditions and reasonable prices. The kids took over the course from the father and immedialty almost doubled the rates. Then they started shaving the greens down. Greens that had severe slopes and when the course was built, the equipment didn’t shave them down… they were built for the times. Now I hear people almost happy for some reason that they 5 putted the 5th hole etc…. “It was awesome!!!” They say. Mid week round cost them each $100…. Unreal.

Typhoon Had some bad, long days before, but none like that one. If that was my only option every week I'd quit for sure. Around here Saturday later that 7:00AM is a guaranteed 5+, and some weekdays even stretch to 5, but have only gone past 5-1/2 once and that was pure torture. It's bad enough that I suck, but then to have all that time between shots to focus on everything but golf and I just fall out completely.

Sad when these types of slow pace stories come out and the owners are content with the course being busy and money coming in. It will eventually cost them......and there has to be a point where the tee times get backed up as the day moves on🤔....and/or groups not being able to finish✅

I played last Sunday and the round took 5 hours. I though that was bad! We waited at every tee box.

One of the main reasons I joined a Club was pace of play.
I’ll play tomorrow morning in about 3.5 - 4 hours at the most
Midweek- you easily get the round
In 3 to 3:30.
Dues are worth every penny .

You can expect 5 hours or more after 8 am tee times on the weekends at my home course. It is one of the reasons I stopped playing then. We used to go out first or second tee times, around 6 am and be done by 11.

Sneaky, when you played there did they have the old guy ranger with the big hat? Probably early 1990’s or late 1980’s? That guy was the biggest prick. I was on the second hole one day waiting for the green to clear and he comes flying down the fairway and says , “ hit the ball…. It took you 2 shots to get here what makes you think you’ll hit the green?”. I said, “ this is my tee shot “. He said nothing and drove away.

Probably not. I didn’t get back into golf until 2000 after a 20 year hiatus. Just remember it was a nice course.

Yesterday's round was 5:15 IIRC. Very slow at a popular public course. I was excited to get back there again, but it would have been no more than 4 hours at my club. I like the course, but won't be going back soon.

Had a good laugh early on the back 9. We had 2 groups and I was in the 2nd group. We briefly had 3 groups on a tee so we're all waiting. Ranger comes up as our group is in the fairway and the group in front of them is on the green. He tells us that he needs us to pick up the pace. We point to the 2 groups both still out there and ask what we should do. He says he'll tell both of them to pick it up too. We tell him that maybe he should drive farther ahead and find the group NOT keeping up.......he did not take our advice lol.

I don’t even look at our pace of play anymore. Seems nobody here cares, nobody playing complains and they just keep coming.
