After I hit this shot yesterday, I thought it would make for a fun topic for everyone.

I have a bunch, it’s hard to choose, but I think my favorites go back to the high school golf team. Our #1 was a good 5-6 strokes better than me ( and everyone else) per 9, and was arrogant about it. He loved to challenge people he’d beat them with just his lob wedge on par 4s. I took him up on it, hit a driver into the rough about 80 yards or so from the green, he bladed the LW twice and was on the green, fair shot to birdie the hole, I dropped a wedge on the back of the hole on the fly for eagle, destroying the cup in the process. He made birdie and lost, I refused a rematch 😂.

Our #4/5 guy was equally over confident in his putting, insisting he was the best on the team, I told him he wasn’t, so his way of proving it was to count the number of putts for our practice round. Come to hole 18, he and I are dead even ( he wasn’t that great, obvious if you’ve ever played w me), I chipped in for birdie and no putts, he two putted. He couldn’t even argue the chip should count, he lost and that was the last we heard about him being the best putter in the league/ on the team.

I have two HIO, couldn’t watch either go in, so cool, but a lot less exciting.

DC300 my putting is extremely streaky, from one extreme to the other. There are weeks I couldn't buy a putt from 2 feet. Then there are weeks where I just can't miss from anywhere near the green, let alone on it. Those days seem to be very few and very far between. Those are always the best scramble days, mostly because I can't seem to hit my irons well.

DC300 @DC300's post brings up a question.....(sorry for the thread jack, BTW). How many of us played on the high school golf team?

I never did, b/c when I was in high school (1963 grad), baseball and golf were both spring sports. It wasn't much of a choice for me b/c I'd played baseball since I was 8-9 years old, but I'd only taken up golf a few years before and knew I wasn't very good. So baseball was an obvious choice for me. But later in my life I coached the golf team at the high school where I taught.

Walterjn same here. Typically I am pretty good with distance control and the putts are just not quite on line, some days they start falling and it’s fun. Most rounds it’s a whole lot of 2 putts.

For me, I think a lot of it is really to do with focus. I’m so much more likely to make the putt when it’s for eagle or if you put money on it than I am if it’s just another putt. I was a lot better when I was competing than I am in any sort of casual round. Aim small, miss small I suppose and I’m much more focused on the aim when it “matters”.

Tangent incoming: I struggle to focus on/enjoy the game as much as I did when I was playing a lot. Now I can see the shot I want to hit, but the likelihood of executing it is so low that it’s not as fun for me. I’m not very good at just doing something for the sake of doing it, I have a mental desire to be good at it or at least to be able to be creative. I was good at bowling when I was younger too, had fairly realistic aspirations of going professional, then hurt my wrist. I’ll take my kids now, but aside from that, I have absolutely zero desire to go. I know I can’t do what I could do and there’s something off in my head about it. Golf isn’t as bad, at least I’m outside and I can still smack the ball pretty well, but it’s still not what it was for me. I may need to seek professional help to learn to enjoy things for what they are, not what I want them to be haha.

fatshot I wish is taken up golf back before high school. It probably would have kept me out of a lot of trouble, and had me working at a course full time by now.

Me, all 4 years. Graduated in 1979. We were a private school so it was mostly country club kids and then a few of us “caddies” to make up the team. Back then it was just 8 kids and we all could break 40 for 9

I would say a hole out from about 80 yards. Nothing earth shattering.

Typhoon that’s a really good team. My team had 5 of us that could go under 40, 3 who regularly did and 2 that were pretty consistently under 42. We were undefeated for my last 2 years and the team was again the year after I graduated, the core of the team was all one grade below me.

The shame was, for our division is was a fall sport and the state qualifier / tournament were held in the spring so we never made it as the rest of the state was at the end of their year and we had 3 or 4 practice rounds before going to miserably hard conditions. I was never going to make it, but our top guy should have been in the dance, he was a legit plus capper as a junior in HS.

HIO 150 yard par 3, back right, nasty pin position, carried water and green-fronting bunker. Ball laded on the fringe just past the bunker, rolled-out 15 feet, broke hard right downhill into the cup like it had eyes. I didn't see it as the hole is out of view. Golf buddy found it first and celebrated like it was his - that excited.
My home course gifts you an etched mug with the course name and hole #, they also gave me the flag. It's hanging on my basement wall. Very cool.
Oh! It wasn't the greatest shot. It was the greatest result, LOL. It was a well-struck ball but it was right of my chosen target line which was actually left of the spot it landed. I'd hoped to execute the safe shot taking the water and bunker out of play - didn't but it still got there.

Shot of my life was the 12th strike ball in a 300 game.
Was made exceedingly more exciting as it was the 22nd strike in a row!!

I played on my high school golf team. My Senior year we only lost to one team. Unfortunately, we lost to them at home, at their course, in the Regionals, and at the State tourney.

I needed a birdie on the 18th hole at their course to line us a chance. I hit 8-iron for the approach when it needed to be at least a 7, probably a 6. Ended up on the green but with a very long putt up oder a ridge; total length of the putt was probably about 65 feet, uphill.

I slammed into that ball with my Ping 1A. The 'ping' sound could probably have been heard from a mile away. The ball tracked the whole way with what looked like a perfect line and perfect speed. It lipped and actually hung on the lip with part of the ball hanging over the edge. I thought it would fall during my slow walk up the green, but it just hung there. I tapped in the par and we lost the match.

Nothing memorable for me. At least not memorable and important. I was in a tournament and was leading by one on the 18th, par 5, hit a mediocre drive and then had to decide to lay up to the water or go over. Hit a 5W over and behind a hill. Hit a nice pitch to 3 feet and made the knee knocker for birdie to win by two. Any of those shots would probably be it for importance.
For just shot making, this year I hit a 3W from about 210 to a foot or something for my first eagle in many years, didn't even think I had 210 in me so that was pretty cool.
Oh yea, one more , another tournament I was in about 3rd a couple or so down and hit a 9I to a couple feet for birdie and net eagle to tie for first out of nowhere. That was pretty cool. Lost in a putt off though.
