Random question of the day. I’m mulling the possibility of buying a nursery. Wondered if anyone here had real experience.
Word vomit explanation:
I’m completely inexperienced in the field, outside of home gardening, but I’ve hit my pivot point in life. Got laid off for the 2nd time in 5 months, frankly, I’m not going back to the rat race. So I’m open to new ventures. I have multiple businesses set up already, from real estate to renovations and while I could go that route, I genuinely want to find something I can enjoy and potentially pass on to my kids if they wanted to do it. The construction field is an option, but I understand enough about it to know it’s not really what I want to do full time. I love the actual work, but I’m 40, which means it already hurts and it’s not going to get better. I’m not really willing to go down the road of a GC and manage a bunch of loonies, that’s just a different scene with the same issues I have with the corporate world. Real estate is grossly profitable, but I also hate the game. I got into it years ago to supplement income with the thought that it might be a full time thing one day and I just don’t want to make that more than my part time gig. For now, the two side hustles will pay my bills so if that’s the way for a while, so be it, I don’t have a lot of monthly expense, so taking on what I need to for now works.
I want to make the move into something that lets me use my brain to solve problems, and create, while getting my hands dirty. It needs to have some physical component to it, I am not a desk jockey. Ultimately it doesn’t have to make me rich, but it’s got to have a reasonable opportunity to at least generate 100k in income by year 5 with minimal amounts of people management, meaning I do not want to build a business with 50+ employees and 10MM in revenue to live a comfortable life and I’m willing to pass on the money for more satisfaction. I’m open to ideas if you have them!
