Seems like three lifetimes ago, I played the North Coast Mini Tour in Florida because I couldn't afford the Goosie Tour and one event I was in the same group as Jim Dent.
Play was slow and Jim either knew it would be or didn’t care as he brought his fishing rod and stuck it right in the middle of his bag and his cartmates bag.
Of course he hits huge drives and that day was no different. After ripping a monster blast, the rest of us would literally each have to hit at least two shots before he got to his drive.
Every tee off, he grabs his fishing rod and walks to his ball by way of the river or pond on all water holes, while we all played and rode carts.
So he is catching fish and bringing them back to his cart and dropping the fish in the bagwell so they were flopping around and stinking up his bag and his playing partner's bag.
Eight or nine holes into the tournament, his cart mate comes over to us in the other cart and says…. “Hey, do you mind if I strap my bag to your cart? It’s like this sumbitch doesn’t know that it is hot in Florida and my car is going to stink all winter!”
It was such a funny moment. The look on his face when he realized that both bags stunk. hahahahaha. Jim was a really good player and a more polite man. A great guy! Thanks for the memory Jim. You were a very nice man!
