I guess invisible fencing is now wireless. I had good results with a lab decades ago with a buried wire system. Thinking of setting up a large area in our backyard for Sophie. Anybody recommend one of the wireless systems?

PetSafe Stay & Play Compact Wireless Pet Fence for Dogs, No Wire Circular Boundary, Secure up to 3/4 Acre, No-Dig and Portable for Travel, for Dogs 5lb & up, from Parent Company Invisible Fence Brand https://a.co/d/a0rVOx8

This one works very well. After having my in ground one cut for the umpteenth time, I gave up and went wireless. This keeps my fat lab in the yard very well. It's not the super fancy one you can set up a custom border with an app, just a base station with a radius you can adjust but it works great. 🐾

Had the same brand several years back that was adjustable up to 1/2 acre…worked great for us also 👍. As you mentioned, it isn’t the newest fancy GPS tech w/app but it still works great.

Just looked and the PetSafe 1/2 acre one and it is on sale at Amazon for like $160 right now…I think that I paid close to 3 hundo like 15 years ago!!

Just keeps your pet in. Not other strays/animals out.

My dog got attacked by another who ran into the yard. Fortunately, I was outside with him and able to rescue my pet.

We now use a real fence.

Understand. I just want to contain her while we're outside with her, tossing the ball, etc. No plans on leaving the princess unattended.

This system isn't going to work. I can't get a full circle of transmission because of the metal in our basement walls. The only way I can get it would be to place the xmitter outside in the center of the backyard. It's going back to Amazon.

Well dammit! So nowhere indoors on the main level will work?

I moved it 4 times and can't get the circle to complete around the utilities room in the basement. She'd have a 10' opening on the side yard with no signal. I even put it outside on our back covered patio. Same gap.

              Shrink the area of transmission.(??)

Not sure how these work but assume you must input the dimensions. ???

Yes, I can do that but because of the long/skinny nature of my lot, she'd be left with a circle too small to be worth the trouble. One of the problems with these systems is you're limited to a 360 degree transmission shape with the transmitter in the center. On a long narrow lot, it gets troublesome. I have an acre but I have to keep the transmission on my property and my neighbor's property lines are only 25 feet from my house on one side and 30' on the other. I'd have to draw a picture to show it clearly. Round target, skinny, rectangular platform.

Ideally, if I was to build a mini shed to house the transmitter in the center of our back yard, it would work. Not gonna do it.

jsippy73 Or build a nice fence enclosure.

We have 1 acre. The back yard is spacious. I think the distance from the back of the house to the river is close to 100 yards. It's just narrow. I think a fence might be our only answer.

Papa d these kits are really easy to install. You can go to most of these small tool rentals and rent a little walk behind machine that buries the wire and installs it as you walk it around the yard.

I did 400’ of wire in less then 30 minutes. You can also buy more wire at Home Depot if the kit you buy doesn’t have enough wire in it.
