Honda CRV Hybrid vs Hyundai Tucson Hybrid

You all are always good at providing good information. Anybody got any feedback on either of these?

Seymore101 I have never had a hybrid, but my household is pretty much all Hyundais and I run them into the ground. Never had much of a problem with any of them. My son is using the Tucson and he is a college student who keeps making 3-5 hour drives to visit friends and 6.5 hour drive back from college and no problems so far (knock on wood since his Spring Break starts tomorrow, lol)

That being said, I’m sure that the Honda CRV is also a very good vehicle. I would say go with whatever package/price works and don’t look back.

Both good choices. I had those two on my short list two years ago. Was leaning towards the Tucson just because I could have gotten it at $2k-$3k cheaper than the CRV. I ended up getting the smaller Kia Niro just because my wife has a Honda Pilot, and I figured the Tucson/CRV would become the "family" car, making the Pilot useless. So I got the Niro which gets 15 mpg more.

That being said, the Niro ended up being big enough to become the "family" car after all, and the Pilot is useless.

RAV4 Hybrids are another excellent option, working at Toyota for 12 years in Service very reliable vehicles. Toyota makes an excellent hybrid system. Mazdas CX5 and CX50 will be using Toyotas hybrid system.

Baaab I have a Highlander, but the footwell makes my leg sit at an awkward angle and makes knee hurt for long drives. I assume the Rav4 has a similar layout. My BIL worked on the line in Indiana for 25 years at Toyota, I want to love the car, but between the gas mileage and the issues with my knee it hasn't been the best fit.

Researched hybrids and glad I bought a Tucson Limited. We just drove 10 hours down and 10 hours back on a vacation and no back, leg or other issues. First time ever for us. ❤️ it.

I don't know much about either, but have always been a Honda fan. My parents have had 2 Toyota hybrids that have worked well for years including a RAV4. I know a few people that have had transmission issues with Hyundai's, but they were not hybrids models.

Seymore101 Sorry to hear about the footwell issue, but it makes me glad I bought the CRV a few months ago. I looked at the Rav4 as well, but got a better price on the CRV through Costco. Neither one was a hybrid though, so unfortunately I can't help answer your question comparing it to the Hyundi Tucson.....

My wife just bought a crv hybrid. We had a Mazda and she never liked it- it was her first non-Honda. She got a great trade in value and is happy with the crv hybrid

Cargo space: slight edge to Honda, but not by much.

Horsepower: CRV = 204 vs Tucson = 231.

AWD: CRV = $1500 upcharge vs Tucson = comes standard.

Warranty: CRV = limited 3yr/36k with Powertrain of 5yr/60k vs Tucson = limited 3yr/36k with Powertrain of 10yr/100k. (huge advantage with Tucson)

Resale value: CRV depreciates 31% after 5 years vs Tucson depreciates 44.3% after 5 years. (advantage goes to CRV)

PA-PLAYA depends on goals/habits ...if one buys every few years, then, get what you want. If its long/er range AND miles, get a Honda or Toyota. Not to say other brands aren't good, but if it's my money, something economical and good on gas is my jam! Corolla, Civic, RAV4,CRV, HRV, Camry, Accord, etc. I wish I were in a different tax bracket, but I HAVE to put a lot of miles on my car AND it has to last!

Yeah, I’ve owned several Hondas and Toyotas. They’ve all been great vehicles.

I recently bought a 2025 Subaru Forester that had 4k miles on it (dealer demo). Got it for $26k… they’re built to last. Smooth ride, but wish it had a little more HP. Wasn’t a dealbreaker for me.

Impreza hatch (my favorite looking car so I'll have to scratch the itch) is on the list to test drive when it's time for something new. HRV, Corolla Cross, and Corolla hatch as well. Who knows if the latter will still be in production. Must be able to fit clubs in back without laying seat down. Some of these SUVs don't have a lot of space in the hatch. Definitely bringing the sticks on the test drive😉

Son recently purchased a loaded Toyota Rav. hybrid. Very nice, and I like the hybrid idea. I think they should have pushed the hybrid more than they have instead of full EV. Anyway the electronics are overwhelming for old people. Has cameras for everything. Can ever show you if parked perfectly centered between the lines. I currently own a Mazda CX-5, my third. Only on my third because I traded low miles ones to get the extra safety features. Really like the Mazda for the shifting trans instead of the variable trans.

I've never owned a hybrid, but I've had a few Toyota's and many Hyundai cars (and a few Kia cars and SUVs). I also had to listen to my sister complain about having the engine replaced in her 2013 Tucson and how she was treated by Hyundai. That was the 2.4 which Hyundai and Kia had their fair share of issues with and I do know that engine was in a fair share of hybrids as well.
If you plan of keeping the car long term and you can swing I would get the Toyota. I look how Toyota treated customers that had Tacomas and Tundras during the frame replacement campaign. My gut feeling is that the Toyota may be about 10k (or so more.

I don't have a lot of Honda experience. What ever you end up with I hope it suits your needs.

Ditto. Toyota hybrid tech is ultra reliable and time tested. My Highlander gets 40+ mpg. I have a neighbor with a Toyota Rav 4 plug-in hybrid. She can go full electric on demand and run it until the battery needs a charge. She loves that for short trips. My Highlander is computer controlled. Can't just choose EV mode.

Does Honda still use Integrated Motor Assist (IMA) in their hybrids? I wasn't a fan of the clamp-onto-the-driveshaft config.
