Club Gaps

I’m sitting here reading Theegala’s WITB . I can’t help but laugh when I go on some other forums how people are always in a panic over yardage gaps and having clubs to fill them, which end of the bag etc….

Theegala has Driver, 4 wood @ 16 degrees, 9 wood @23 degrees and then a 4 iron. And his irons….. he doesn’t carry a 7 iron!!

Typhoon IIRC he has a 7i, but it's labeled something else because he wasn't getting along with his 7 iron.......which is brilliant IMO

azgreg If I had a favorite club I would try to label them all the same lol. I don't have a putter, I just have a short flat 8 iron 😉

azgreg Oh wow… these guys ARE psycho… and we think WE are nuts. I saw where it said 4-6 and then 8-W and just figured. I read where some guys were dropping 5 or 6 irons for a higher lofted wedge and it made sense .

Once played with a guy, who had a driver but next went to a 7 wood and then 7 iron to SW. He hit that 7 wood and the 7 iron so well and I rarely ever seen him hit the others.

I got paired up with a guy who played driver off every tee, even if it was a 105-yard par 3.

My 5w and 11w are pretty versatile clubs. Choke down and hit punch shots with them on odd lies or yardages. I prefer the 8 to 9 club bag anyway.

When he first got on tour he didn't even carry a fairway. He use what he called a frankenhybrid. It was a long 2h.

Aside from the 7 iron, he goes from driver to 4 iron… probably a 70-80 yard gap since he is one of the longer hitters off the tee, with only 2 clubs filling the gap. Guess he doesn’t need something every 10 yards🙄

There may not be any gap. How far does he hit each iron?

Jake can hit driver 350. He then can hit 5i 250+. We don't play any 600 yd. holes much. He really does not even need a driver ever, but it's fun.

Having clubs evenly gapped is foreign to me, but those guys play different courses weekly and from massive distances.
