ode I saw Murray do his top 10 news anchor spot and when at Norm McDonald
... convincing him OJ might be innocent....I thought was funny even though I didn't understand it as I rarely watched SNL, then saw YT medley of his OJ clips....maybe he was canned at some point as a result 🤔
Don Ohlmeyer was the head of the network and oversaw SNL. He was also a good friend of OJ Simpson. So when Norm Macdonald got fired most assumed it was because of his jokes about OJ.
The week after the murders the cold opening was a sketch that had Tim Meadows playing OJ and he was back at his job on ABC’s Monday Night Football.
The first joke of the skit had Meadows on the field doing commentary about a play. And he’s doing the Madden thing where he writes on the screen and he’s joining the marks out together.
They eventually spelled “I Did It.” lol In rehearsal it didn’t do well. But the reaction when aired live was explosive with laughter. The late night shows had been dancing around it.
Norm Macdonald really had no interest with doing skits. He just wanted to do Update. I liked Norm the best myself. Never should’ve been fired.
