jsippy73 I don't think it would actually provide an advantage, to be honest. You can't swing it in a pure pendulum motion, so the physics would likely work against you.
The way the driver is currently designed really maximizes your chances of hitting the ball well.
There is a crazy guy on Youtube who calls himself Overhand Golf... he has a video in which he goes to the range and hits a driver that he altered so that the driver head can freely spin on the shaft in any direction. When he puts a regular, smooth golf swing on it, the head squares up BY ITSELF and he hits the ball straight.
A lot of the problems we have hitting driver straight are caused by our attempts to hit the driver straight, manipulating it too much. This explains why, when faced with a fairway 70 yards wide, people generally hut the ball fairly straight, but when faced with a narrow fairway, they slice or hook the ball off the planet.
