Not a lot produced today will be around in 10-15 years. But you'll still find plenty of old fridges in garages/basements from 2000, but not many from 2025.
Vehicles and many other items will be the same.
It's already that way. Pay attention dammit.😄

What you mentioned is one of the reasons I decided to replace my old air conditioning system with just a single-stage unit. I liked the theory part of two-stage systems but also understood that in practice it meant more repairs and shorter lifespan while saving each month.

Yipsy don't have answers to your questions. Just found it refreshing not to be given the salesman bs.
Hisense tvs-have 2 of them. Somewhat new-no issues. Have no wishful thoughts of them lasting more than 4-5 yrs. Tvs are not made to last long no matter who the mfg is. Why spend a boatload of money on them?

I've never owned a TV that lasted only 4-5 years. An LCD panel should go for decades. I've purchased several and all of them are still in operation. The oldest goes back to 2016. It used to frustrate me I wouldn't be able to justify a new TV purchse for the next 15-20 years because I hate the one I have now. Looking for an excuse to replace but won't until it fails. I wish it'd failed after 4-5 years.

Yipsy our tvs get a lot of use. I'll be happy if they last more than 5 yrs and my wallet won't be unhappy either.

We leave the living room TV on 24/7 most days of the week. I still can't get it to fail.

Replacement ice makers are cheap on ebay and exactly the same as OEM.

Yipsy Do you feel you were misled by your research as in fake reviews kind of thing?

Yeah I am pretty careful about sorting through reviews as I know many can be false. Many times you can tell when there are a lot of great reviews, but the most recent reviews aren't very good. The Hisense had excellent reviews at multiple places.

Sometimes you just don't get the best version of a product. Many years ago my wife had a Nissan Maxima that was rated as a fantastic car. It was basically a lemon; good thing she leased it. I own a 9 year old BMW I bought used and (knock on wood) have never had an issue with it. Best most reliable car I have ever owned and we've had Toyota, Honda, Subaru. Go figure.

It is impossible to know what really is a real review and what isn't. Incentive for people to promote a product and also to slam it.

The best reviews are the ones that are overwhelmingly negative. That's about the only time I think they might be honest if you were already skeptical of the product.

I do what you do. I look for the most cost-effective method every single time. We have a used dryer that I bought after one I bought new lasted less than 10 years. The used dryer is going on 15 and I paid half what I paid for the new one.

Yipsy I have a Sub Zero 642 (no longer in production) in my house, was there when I bought the place in 2023. Since it is built into the wall, appears to be the original one. Works well, but I'd prefer more of the options of current fridges. Not sure if I will repair vs replace when it goes bad. The reputation on them is good. I just looked up the price and not one for the everyday family. Geez.

BTW, the Sub Zero is stainless steel and not magnetic. I like to use magnets on the fridge to hold all the clutter.

I put in a Samsung into my house in VA before I sold it when I remodeled the kitchen. Bought as scratch & dent from Lowes. Worked well.

I will always buy a scratch and dent if I see one at a significantly reduced cost. I'm familiar with the price on Sub Zero's. Not for me even I had all the money in the world.

Just got a can of WD-40 and sprayed the freezer fan of our old LG. Squeal appears gone. Hoping for that johnnydoom fridge longevity.

Auto parts store I used to work at still has the cold fridge from the '50's-60's. Still runs just fine. Only issue is the handle broke, so there is rough/ sharp points to be aware of.

The kitchen fridge is a Whirlpool at least 15 years old. It is a simple top freezer with a basic icemaker. No issues to date. It has nothing digital on it and no in the door water or ice. I had a fridge in the basement that I inherited from my parents when they moved to a smaller place. It was a huge double door Kenmore with bottom freezer that they got back in the 60's. It served as my bar fridge from 1985 to about 2010 which made it about 40 years old. I also have a Holiday brand upright freezer in my basement as well that we got around 1986 and is still going strong. The only issue with the freezer was when I unplugged it to wire a new outlet off of the box the freezer was plugged into. I forgot to plug the freezer back in. That was discovered weeks later when my wife opened it and was greeted by a whole tray of stuffed green peppers doing the Hula. I was enormously popular. 🤣
