What a day! Weather was perfect, and so was the golf course. Walking Augusta National for the first time several things stood out that you can't really see on TV. 1. There's a LOT of grass even beyond the golf course, and it's all impeccably maintained. They could lay down a couple more holes between where #18 and #9 converge. It's like this mass expanse of perfect grass that runs for forever. The elevation changes on #9, 10, 11, and 18, among most of the holes is impossible to understate. Hitting the approach on #9 is virtually straight up a small mountain.
No cellphone allowed, so I bought a camera this morning to take pictures with. When I am able to pull the images off of the SD card I will post some here.
Lifetime highlight of the day for me was when we were sitting in the grandstands at #16 tee and Rory McIlroy comes to the tee, and commences to make an ace. I wish I had video of that moment, as the crowd went completely nuts. I had never witnessed a hole in one in person before, so this was amazing to see.
What an amazing experience at what I would characterize as "the Disney World for golfers."
One final note to leave you on. Every one there was super friendly and courteous. Towards the end of the day we needed to use the restroom, so we headed towards the facility by #18 fairway. As we approached the door, the "attendant" said, "welcome to the restroom." I don't recall anyone ever welcoming me to go to the toilet before. And that restroom was the cleanest one you'll ever lay down your precious fluid at. It was sort of awkward though as while you are doing your business there are a half dozen attendants ready to clean up after you. Some things should remain private honestly.
