Orlando Vacation-Golf Club Rental

I'll be in Orlando from the 5th through the 12th. Unfortunately, I'm not able to bring my clubs with, nor do I want to ship them down to Florida. I know some courses offer rentals. Anyone have good/ bad experience renting clubs from the course? How much approx for one round?

Depends on where you play. In my experience, the nicer the course, higher the greens fee and the nicer the rentals. If you play a decent course in Orlando, I would guess the rentals will be a full set of OEM clubs. I saw Callaways when we were in the Dominican Republic at Hard Rock. Very nice rentals. Just a guess on my part.

I played Celebration GC in Orlando at the end of October. Their rentals were PING G series. No complaints!

Like Steve said, resort or high end courses have oem up to date equipment. I never bring my clubs anymore. Last year in Nashville it was taylormade Rs1, year before that Callaway and Ping in Arizona.

I have done it before in Orlando, a Disney course, they had the latest TM clubs, I enjoyed the irons, the woods suffered from stock shaftitis for me, but that's to be expected. I wouldn't worry about it.

If you know where you're going to play, most courses advertise their Greens fees and rental rates on their website. They will most certainly tell you over the phone. I have paid in the $40 to $50 range for nice OEM rentals at nice resort courses.

How many times are you going to play? It doesn't take many rounds at $40 to $50 to make it worth your while to ship your clubs. Then you get to play your own equipment, too, if that matters to you.

P.S. It matter enough to me that I'd rather play an abbreviated set of my own clubs than rent.

I agree with kelco9. If you're playing only one round, then rentals are the way to go. But 2 rounds or more - the additional airline baggage fee is about 3/4+ of the way paid for with just two rental charges.

And... if Virgin Atlantic ever gets popular enough over here to become a frequent domestic airline option - they charge $0 for golf clubs.

Virgin Atlantic is by-far the best airline I've ever used, wish they would expand to the US for intercontinental options.

More than once on a vacation I have picked up some clubs at a Goodwill and then either donated them back when I was done or stashing them locally if I know someone willing to store them for the next visit. Then again at the low-end courses I play the rental clubs are often really bad. I have a set of '62 Wilson Staff irons and Macgregor V-foil woods at my mom's house that all came from thrift stores. I look forward to playing them each time I am there for a visit.

I think it's usually $30 for rentals. When I go away for my wife's meetings it's usually only a couple days so I play twice.

If I was going to play more I'd bring my own. I've played a lot of good rounds with rentals...they were better sets than the Ping eye2's I was playing at the time.
