What will be the format? I remember Coach SB used to group the players and you had to pick a group, or something like that.

I would propose making it easier. Maybe have everybody pick 4 or 5 players total, and then assign points based on how those players finish. I don't know.....I'm just making this us off the top of my head, but say, for example, 40 points for picking the winner, 25 for second, 20 for third, 15 for fourth, 10 for 5th, 5 for 6th, and then maybe take away 5 points for every player chosen that misses the cut?

This would be pretty easy to keep track of, I think.

Obviously this is just an off-the-cuff suggestion; others may have much better ideas.

Could also have something like subtracting 15 points if one of your chosen players turns out to be the highest score of all the active PGA professionals in the field or something, just for fun.

Are there any websites that allow you to create your own 'group' and perform all the services from allowing a participant to select their players to automatically scoring? I know there are numerous companies that made this available for March Madness.

    mikeintopeka Probably.

I'm just now remembering the way Coach did it, and probably why my idea is no good. If everybody can just pick any 5 players, almost everybody picks the same guys, so the contest doesn't work right.

Coach would separate the players into 5 groups, from most likely to win to least likely to win, and you had to pick one guy from each group as your players. That way you couldn't have, for example, Dustin Johnson and Jordan Speith, since they would both be in the "first tier."

We could pick the tiers based on vegas odds or based on odds from Golf Digest or something, and pretty much do it the same way Coach did it. It's not particularly difficult.

I found one called www.runyourpool.com that already divides the players into 6 tiers. I can't go to the website because I'm at work and the site is blocked. Maybe somebody could check the site out and see if it meets our needs.

Or, we could just use their "tiering" system and run our own pool. If we can see their tiers, it would save somebody the trouble of making our own tiers.

Spuzz The tiers would need some revising. Hideki Matsuyama in tier 3? Not this year.

The tiers are based on the world rankings (in order) with "next man up" as substitutes for those not playing for whatever reason.

Spuzz From last year, though. Matsuyama has likely moved considerably up the world list since last year.

I really liked the Masters Contest Coachsb ran. I'm in for this year as well.

I'd definitely want to participate and will offer up a NIP 9.5* Snake Eyes driver head as a prize.

OK. Here's an idea; very similar to last year's contest.

        Tier 1.
        Dustin Johnson
        Rory McIlroy
        Jason Day
        Hideki Matsuyama
        Henrik Stenson
        Jordan Spieth

        Tier 2.

        Justin Thomas
        Adam Scott
        Rickie Fowler
        Sergio Garcia
        Alex Noren
        Patrick Reed

        Tier 3.

        Justin Rose
        Tyrrell Hatton
        Danny Willett
        Paul Casey
        Bubba Watson
        Phil Mickelson

        Tier 4.
        Branden Grace
        Matt Kuchar
        Russell Knox
        Jimmy Walker
        Brandt Snedeker
        Brooks Koepka

        Tier 5.
        Jon Rahm
        Rafael Cabrero Bello
        Louis Oosthuizen
        Charl Swartzel
        Francesco Molinari
        Emiliano Grillo

How about this. Pick ONE player from each group, and then pick ONE player who is not listed. Scores of all the players you chose will be added together. Players that miss the cut will have their first two rounds' score doubled and added to the total. The person whose picks have the lowest total score will win the contest.

        Tie breaker
        1) Will Tiger Woods play in the tournament?
        2) What will the winner's score be?

How does that sound? The players are listed in order of their World Ranking as of today (top 6 in tier 1, 7-12 in tier 2, etc).

If you don't like this idea, or have ways of improving it, post them in the thread. Thanks.

rsvman Sounds really interesting and fun. You only have one problem...I'm picking either Marc Leishman or Adam Hadwin to win it, and they're not on the list. 🙂

kelco9 everyone is required to pick one player who is not on the list. You would have to choose between them.

Even though I'm a lefty and (assuming) that whatever prize, if a golf club, would be righty.... I guess you can still count me in.

It's not like I have a record of winning these contests anyway...
