Here's a video. Of course the two videos I took were great shots. That's how high I normally follow through on a 50 yarder, but lately my hands don't get higher than my belt

That swing looks very familiar to me, right down to the Band-it elbow brace I wear. I have no idea what advice to pass on as I'm just a guy who makes a homemade swing work (on some days), but I think my swing might look like your swing. I rely on solid tee game, chipping and putting to score because I totally suck at full shots off the turf.

garyt1957 I have seen worse swings, for sure. Your tempo is good.

On first view, it looks like your backswing is mostly lifting your arms, rather than rotating your shoulders. If you can rotate, it's usually better to have a shorter backswing that is rotational than to swing farther back using just arm lifting.

garyt1957 Your stance is too wide by miles for a 50 yard pitch. Narrow to say 8 inches between your feet, and let your legs become involved. A wide stance for a short swing makes it all arms, and impossible to get the hands ahead at impact. That’s a 20 handicap pitch swing.

If there is anything , I noticed your left arm bends too much on your backswing so there is no width, you’re just picking it up. But again, on those shots you make it work.

I am quite adept at hitting the 9, PW, & GW.
All the same distances.

sdandrea1 I hit the ball fine on full shots (well for a 10-14 hdcp) I even hit my 3 wood pretty well. I lose strokes on short game and putting, although putting has improved.

rsvman2. I can turn fine, I just never have on short pitches. Used to be really good from 100 in but now not so much.
The swings on this video was a bit of a fluke as the two shots before were shanks. I wanted to get the shanks on video to get advice on what I'm doing wrong but of course with the camera on I hit 2 nice pitches and on 18 hit a 50 yarder or so to 6" for birdie.
Played again today and was about 50/50 on shanks and good pitches? Fuck me.

Absolutely spot on observation. Fix your address position and extend your arms because when you strike the ball, your arms are extended. Only one thing causes shanks. You're too close to the ball at address. Nice observation and pick-up DonM!

In the other vid, on your 1st shot, your heel was firmly planted until after you hit the ball. In the other 3 hits, I detect movement of the heel just prior to and as you strike the balls. Might just be my PC and my eyes.(?)

jmo, but I don't like how far back in the stance you have the ball. I'd be sending everything right if it were my setup.

And I wouldn't call those shanks. Skulls is a more appropriate term. They did go straight, shanks never do.

garyt1957 There's a pretty big difference between setup and impact, for a short swing.

I would say that if you are going to stand that close, which I judge by how close your hands are to your body, then you should try standing the club more upright, take out some of the bend in your elbows and/or wrists. Because to me, you are making too many adjustments during a short swing. Especially since you are mostly using your arms. Why change the bend so drastically on a little swing? That's how I see it.

Try some "toe down" shots.

Par4QC no i said that. These were just bad shots but the shots earlier were shanks to the right

DonM Interesting. I see the extra space between my arms as being that my hip and knee have moved out of the way.
I'll try moving farther away from the ball.
I do use the toe up shots on short chips, will give it a shot on longer shots.
Willing to try anything at this point, its sapping the fun out of the game.

I've been using these a lot this year and it's been working well.

Also just practicing chipping 1-handed has helped me tremendously. I probably should practice putting 1-handed and see if that helps at all 🤔

Here's the easiest way, but I don't say it's for everyone, just guys who have no short game. 🙂

I've cued it up at a good spot to look at his setup and swing on 50 yard pitch. A few minutes of good swings. Can a short pitch swing be any simpler than this? Just think of the back of your left hand facing the ground at the end of the backswing, and then swing back through. As square as it gets. You can't hit this one offline.

professor There's at least one where Todd Graves says, "made it", and Moe just says a little "um-hum" and keeps hitting. I think it's a couple of shots prior to where I cued it up.
