Question for spine alignment guys

I’ve never put graphite in irons before, and never had a driver shaft with the spine located.

I received my set of Alpha PT-85 iron shafts and they appear to have alignment lines and frequencies recorded on them.

I’m completely ignorant of the subject and couldn’t find out from Alpha or the seller (Grips4Less) whether the line is highest or lowest spine. Any advice, or guesses, as to whether the line goes along the swing plane or perpendicular? If either.

johnnydoom I've never found those lines to line up on my spine finder.
I'm not so hardcore that I FLO though, and those marks could possibly be that. @scotts33 would have better info. Esp. about those frequencies.😲

Being discrete length shafts I would hope you would see CPM numbers get higher as the shafts shorten.

Is there only one line or two lines?

I don’t know much about frequencies either. In looking at charts for a couple (raw length) they appear to fall pretty well into the designated R flex. They do vary, but it’s a taper tip set and each is a different length.

I’m not too worried about assembly position or if alignment line is correct. I just figured it couldn’t hurt to hear from people that know something about it since I’ll be waiting a few days for the 7-iron to show up before I can start assembly. Online it looks like 3 or 9 o’clock alignment is most likely intended.

If those are actual CPM numbers, and they all are the same shaft model, that’s a pretty big gap. 😬

My thoughts also until I saw they were .355, knowing they were discrete lengths.

I've also read where that line is sometimes a factory mark to line up logos. Are those in line?

Par4QC They are not all in the same place relative to the label, but 5 of them are very close to the same. 2 of the other 3 are very close to each other, but in a different position relative to the label. 1 is in a different area from the other two groups.

If you don't have the means to find the spine or FLO,
I'd just build one club and orient the line towards the target.
Then see how that club feels and plays......

I have experience with PT-85's. That line is S1. There are varying opinions on axis plane orientation. They are filament wound/hoop wound with triax in 3 different windings as the shaft is manufactured which eliminates the shaft from ovaling during the golf swing. AeroTech uses this kind of manufacturing process. The CPM marks should be close in frequency and you would figure out what slope with flex designation as to what "fits" your swing. Alpha dealers can talk to Carol Suh at Alpha and get various flexes in a set to "fit" the specific player BUT I think right now all they have available are "R". Hoop strength profiles more or less follow EI profiles with some variance. The PT-85 you won't find much differential differences as the shaft is measured. I'd do what others have suggested and FLO call it good. FLO is aligning for less to no ovaling on an axis plane.

FLO, install/build a test iron light and check impact as you add lead tape. Build to that target heft match. They are constant weight shafts so the heft match will be easier.
