Do you have that “Magic Club” in the bag? You know, that one that you just hit great every time? I sure do. It’s my Ping Rapture 3I (picked up from @freebowlofsoup for a dozen used Snell MTBs). I’m a high handicapper who can’t hit irons to save his life but for whatever reason I hit the sh!t out of this thing. Tight lies off the fairway, out of the rough, this thing just goes like 205-215!

This thing is a Frankenstein club. I have it bent a bit weak (22*) and play it at 4I length on a Paderson Kinetixx ballistic 110 6 iron shaft in regular flex. What about this club makes it work for me? The Rapture head (ti face, tungsten weight, fat @$$ sole, offset)? The graphite shaft (lighter weight, lesser flex)? Whatever it is, there is some massive poon in this thing.

What is your magic club?

From a clubmaking/fitting perspective you hit on the correct heft match for you specifically with the playing length/lie, shaft weight and other fitting factors yadda yadda. Everyone has a target number that they hit well. Found by impact testing (below). This is how you truly custom fit a golfer. When you find a fitter that does impact testing you have found a true custom fitter/builder. You can self fit and this would be the start of finding the correct fitting factors. BTW this does not mean that at shorter playing lengths with the same lighter graphite shaft will produce the same impact.

You'll find that many golfers will post a specific club (poon club) that they always hit well many will say a 7i. This is also why swing weight matched clubs are not the end all to be all as the letter/number will not match impact as you go thru a set. Swing weight as an industry standard and is done as it's the easiest way to build a 7g interval 1/2" playing length set. But that does not mean the same letter/number say D-0 at 5i 38" shafted will have the same impact as the same shaft 9i at 36" D-0 or insert any letter/number.

I have hit surprising shots with my PXG 2021 0211 7 wood with an Tensei Blue shaft. It's become a great club to hit off the tee on those shorter holes that have trouble built into the hole at driver distance. It's very dependable. I wish I had it in 5 wood as well.

No magic clubs for me. The magic comes and goes with all of them on an alternating basis so I don't get all parts working at the same time. The closest has been my Ping G400 driver, which I have hit with remarkable consistency except for the first few holes that last two times I've played.

I have had many through the years. Right now it's a Power Play System Q 8 hybrid. Even when I was having a horrible round a week or so ago that was the only club I hit well. I hit every green when I got to the distance I could use it. I started using it to lay up, and hitting it lighter to cover more distances. Told my wife it was the "magic club".
It's funny because I've had "magic clubs" that eventually become unhittable after awhile so it's not like they were just fitted to me. I've had a couple 7 woods, a 5 wood and recently a 6 hybrid that were magic for me for quite awhile. Don't even have the 5 or 7 woods anymore.

My Cally Rogue X 5h has been very good to me. Before that the XR16 OS 5h was also great, until the face flattened. Both used the same iRod 95 Stiff and I think I have at least a 20g backweight in it. The XR16OS only wanted to hit a high draw, but it did it consistently. They RogueX seems like it has much less loft even though it's labeled only 2* less. I can hit high, but not as high; I would call it a 4h As a bonus though I can also sting it low and it has some workability to it. It's also a rocket launcher and even mishits go. Can't say I love the shape, but once I figured out how to line it up and swing it I got over it. Unfortunately I couldn't find the same magic with the matching 3 or 4h.

Always been a decent fairway wood player. But aside from those probably my favorite club is my 5 hybrid. It’s a Cobra FMax 25 degree. It’s my 160-170 club. I can hit some nice high draws with it. Lot of confidence with the club.

For me, it's my XXIO Prime 7 hybrid. If nothing else is working the 7 hybrid will work. I can almost say that about my XXIO 11, 6 hybrid and XXIO 11 (Frankenstein) 8 hybrid as well. They work 90-95% of the time.

Callaway epic flash hybrid 21 degrees. 190-220 depending on quality of the strike. It goes straight and highish. Sometimes I think I’d be better off using it and leaving the driver and 3 wood at home

d5n03 I’ve got the same on an Xcalibur shaft and it’s been vey good, especially off the tee. Just wants to go high and straight!

Right now it's my Orlimar Trimetal + 7wood (22 degrees). I have it on an XCaliber senior flex shaft, and I've actually hit a bunch of greens with it this season. Subject to change, of course, LOL.....

So my “magic” Rapture 3 iron has a very low VCOG (if you believe in that sort of thing). I’m starting to strike my irons (2016 Ping G’s) better and when I catch them it’s long and a draw for days. I caught a 7i flush on a par 3 and flew the green, pin at 175, about 190 and way left. However I’m still a shallow sweeper. As such I’m looking for a forgiving set of heads with less offset BUT with a low VCOG. I wanna put them on my Paderson Kinetixx Ballistic 95s.

The Ping S58’s look like they may fit the bill. Anyone have experience with them or other recommendations?

colej TE forged, and the TS3.

Agree. The Maltby TS3 are incredibly soft with a low VCOG. I've found that the finish holds up nicely also. 🏌

The KE4S’s, TEs and especially the TS3s are all appealing but…I’m a hoe. The resale on a Maltby ain’t great. Older OEM stuff is fully depreciated and I can flip it for what I bought it for after a year or two. I may end up trying some KE4S’s on the @LogicalOne steel shafts I have b\c they are cheap and I can isolate the low VCOG to see if it’s that or the graphite shafts that are working for me.

My new TE Hot Launch E522 11 wood. Point, close eyes, swing. Good gawd they're ez.

      colej KE4S

Any reason why this and not the KE4 Tours? VCOG much lower?

You could definitely consider the tour as well. The difference in COG is minimal.

I would say the KE4S are a little more forgiving then the tour.
