In the two years here I have not seen a team go for more than around 700. Some go for as little as 75, and most go in the 100-200 range. My partner and I did pretty well the first year, so last year our team got bid up a bit, I think around 400 to 450. I'm pretty sure we bought it outright. We did well again and made a little money. I know I did better in the parimutuel betting than on the calcutta for our team. I'd rather bet $5 or $10 on some team than try to buy them! Including my own team. The whole trick is to identify the biggest sandbaggers and buy them.
We have several groups of guys who bid on teams. Based on what I saw last time, and the fact that I've put up some low rounds, I have a feeling ours will go higher this time, at least if we are in the bidding. I have to get together with my partner and see if we want to bid at all, or just let somebody buy it at a lower price and then we buy half. I've noticed some of the experienced better players do it that way. Even the ones who are big buyers of other teams, don't bid on their own team.
