Shell's Wonderful World of Golf Palmer vs. Nicklaus. I remembered this and it's good to watch to compare Pinehurst #2 in 1994 vs. 2024. Two greats of the game with steel shafted persimmon at 6700 yards and a little less penal with less native areas but same run off Donald Ross greens. I noted Arnold Palmer hitting a traditional lofted 5 iron 167 yards into the wind on the 1st hole. Jack Whitaker and Bob Rosburg now those guys are real golf announcers. Rossie really developed the on course commentator.

Agreed is some respects the ball and equipment with agronomy have changed the game so much that's it's not as some of us old timers think of golf. I think of Palmer and Nicklaus as great hand eye athletes but not the modern day golfing athlete. I dislike the changes in some respects to the gems of the past and it many respects golf to me is not recognizable but I'm an old fogey but definitely not conservative. 😉

As I still play steel shafted persimmon woods along with graphite shafted metal woods I know what the difference in comparison is to me. Some how I just like the challenge and sound of persimmon. Poorly stuck shots with persimmon are not rewarded as 460cc metal head drivers. Some of my best rounds with 460cc driver are right after I play with a 195cc persimmon 1 wood as the previous round required solid center impact and trained me to hit it dead solid perfect.

😩gawdam....get to a fitter. They will set you up with the right equipment/balance/weight that allows great hits every swing. Every club.

I don't presume to know what a PGA player's mindset might be. But you would. I can't speak to your losses, nor would I. I'm certain the roster of GolfBuzz is loaded with retired professional golfers. You and your ilk on this board make belief through either Twitter (formerly known as X), Golf Digest, and all the other tabloid news that you're well-acquainted with Rory McIlroy's personal life. Why? Because my marital conflicts and divorce are so similar? I doubt it.
You're all entitled to define sportsmanship as you wish. You think Rory's a "poor sport". Sure So, Bryson's romping around, celebrating his victory with fans. Good for him! Does that mean McIlroy's to wait that all out so he's caught on camera congratulating him? I don't know. But the collective wisdom of an online golf forum sure does know the truth and what is/isn't acceptable. Wish I had such wisdom.

See there??..... again you are way off-base/totally wrong. You only see what you want to see(and always think). In print or in sight.

Bryson's display was the worst type of sportsmanship, very poor. I was embarrassed just watching it.

And I'd have to go back through all these posts to find if I actually did say something neg about Rory and his not doing an interview. I do recall pointing out that in other sports the losers do that, when required.

It took Bryson maybe 5 minutes from Pavon's hole out for him to get inside and there were no cameras outside the door. It could have been a semi- private moment.

I’ve said before, I suspect Bryson is ADD or thereabouts. He doesn’t seem to moderate his emotions as well as most people. I think he’s a good guy, and maybe he tries too hard to fit in because it’s not as easy for him. In a world of round holes, not everyone can be a round peg.

Unless or until he does something truly in bad taste, I’m a fan.

DonM Bryson studied Physics in college. I studied Engineering and everyone says engineers are crazy nerds (usually true), but physicists are batsh*t crazy. They are another level. I love that for golf though. I hope he never stops experimenting.

DonM I was moaning about Bryson on the forum about 5 years ago because he didn’t congratulate the guy in his final pairing after he (Bryson) dunked several shots in the water coming in. He was enraged after he blew a big lead and then barely acknowledged the other guy playing with him that won. That was in Europe and he seems to have learned from it. Glad Bryson won this week and hope he wins more.
