Wedge shafts...yay or nay?

Friday i have to stop by my fitters place todrop off a friend's irons for a loft and lie check/adjustment. While im there ill pick up my M2/HZRDUS Yellow and ask him about wedge shafts.

My question for u guys is do u prefer wedge shafts or just the same shafts u play in your iron set.

My gap from my 50 degree Ping U wedge and my pm grind 56 degree is 20-25 yards. I was thinking of bending it from 56 to 54 but also what i want to ask him is my Nippon Modus 105 is far lighter than the kbs tour v in the wedges....is that " something"

My old eye 2 irons were before wedge shafts and i never had an issue with feel or with the distance issue i get with wesve shafts. My x forged also have cally stock wedge shafts in them and fo thw same as the pm grind.

You had hit a personal preference there.
For me, the wedge is not for hitting as far as the 7 iron but more a placement club. If it feels good and I could place the shot with the trajectory I want, then, it's all good.
I used to play the same shaft in a set for PW and SW, never had an issue for them, although going from set to another set need some adjustment.

It wouldn't be a bed experiment if you want to find out what works for you, never know if yo never tried it ? Worst case you will have to sell the extra shaft later.

Wedge shafts are intentionally stiff, to handle sand / bad lies.
I really don't see how a wedge shaft can behave any differently than a stiff iron shaft.
What could it really do? You are often swinging less than full speed. The shaft is not flexing.

I thought I read somewhere that wedge shafts are closer to a 7 iron flex to allow more feel. You say the opposite.
I shafted my wedges with 8 iron tipped shafts and they feel very nice. It is rare that I will be taking a full swing with them anyway.

I've tried all the different options. Specific wedge shafts, spinners, Tiger stepping, etc. I always come back to the same shafts that are in my irons. I just prefer the feel.

Well this sucker is going for it! Mostly because of the weight difference. They are a bit softer which is part of the premise. I hit alot of full shots with mine so something closer in weight to my Modus 3 105 iron shafts is smarter anyway. The Tour v wedge shafts from KBS are 125 grams. My iron shafts are 105 grams, the wedge version is 111 grams so It should be better...more like when I had the Eye 2's.

I know the Nippon wedge shafts will play a touch softer, I think someone else said stiffer.

He told me the ball flight will be lower with them too, which is nice. I looked into the whole Tiger stepping etc...thought my head would explode.

Would have gone with either the matching iron shafts or the " matching" wedge shafts anyway...cost is the same. I trust his recommendations after discussing what I was looking for.

The Pings Steve just rip the cover off the ball on full shots. Only ball cover that holds up is the pro v.
I thought of throwing the eye2 pw, sw and lw in the bag..😊

It really depend on the golf's ability, some like it stiffer for control and some like it softer for "feel:.
Same goes for every club in the bag. If one has the proper swing speed, the shaft will flex and the "feel" will be there, too high a swing speed for the flex will actually lose the feel.

If you have trouble spinning the ball the softer tipped "wedge" shafts might help.
That's not me however, I generate a ton of spin and hit the ball high.

I'm the complete opposite, I want to control trajectory and reduce dispertion with the wedges and as such play a flex stiffer ( the stiffer the tip the better) and want to reduce shot height. Softer means less control for me.

I like softer shafts in my irons. No problem generating spin. I like to be able to "feel" the draw. With my driver... I'm learning to hit something softer...just feels better.

When I got fit the first time by the Ping rep at demo day, he had me in the CFS X flex because he raved about the numbers. Problem was I hit nothing solid once I had the irons. That one out of 5 was good. When I was at Ping in Arizona, Brian fit me there, I wanted to see what he came up with because I wasn't too happy. I didn't tell him anything, just let him go...

He told me the CFS would be something I could more than handle speed-wise but I would be inconsistent with it. He was spot on...exactly what I was experiencing. Had them reshafted with the Modus3 105 stiff.

They will make for good wedge shafts...wedges are the big part of my game too.

Tried softer flex shafts but found that when I had to hit it harder they would shoot the ball too far.
Could never get the distance right.
This winter I reshafted my SW from R flex (like my irons) back to a stiff flex.
My fav wedge shafts used to be Rifle 6.0 but I never played a full iron set with those shafts.

Yes, I prefer that my wedges have shafts. 😊

I use the same shaft as my irons in my PW and UW (gap), and a wedge flex shaft in my SW.
